Default riding at salt flats

Around here there are a lot of salt flats (place where the salt has eaten up the land and it's bare, for those of you who don't know) and me and my buds use to ride there. My friend who rides a modified blaster claims to have to troubles with the salt eating up his machine...BUT he rides a blaster which is kick start and doesnt have to worry about wiring to the starter. I used to ride there with my warrior and it had some electric problems, but I don't know whether that was what caused it or whether it was the fact I never washed it. Will this hurt my new machine? Will I be ok if I wash it off pretty soon? Tell me what you guys think.
