Default 250R or Banshee, Please Read.

Currently I ride a decent 86 250R. After this weekend, I have come into some extra money so I cannot decide whether to fix it up (ported 330) or go to a Banshee. I mainly ride very open trails, some dunes and lots of drags. Does anybody have any information for either machine to help me decide? I like the way the Honda rides and handles, but here lately the drags have become more important at our local riding area, so I guess it is easier to go faster on a Banshee. Either way I am confused!

Thanks
Nic

Both great quads. But if you are going into more drags the shee has more potential. Not saying a 330 r wouldn't be quick. There is just so many parts dedicated to makeing a shee faster in a drag. But somewhere I think someone said about a Bigger kit for the "r" coming out, not sure if thats true however. But all in all the shee can be made faster then any "R" in drags. Also look at the fact that Banshee parts are everywhere and they are still in production while some "R" parts are getting harder to come by.

You'll probably love both, good luck

I don't know but I have to say I would love to ride one of these and I have never seen a "R" tricked like these.

well yes a shee would be nice for him but Im sure he dosent have unlimited amount of money. A shee has twice as many parts which = twice as much money if not more. And from what I have seen shees arnt as reliable as R's usually are. Sooo with the same amout of money you can make an R go faster. Its just when they are both completly maxed out the shee is faster, BUT they came out with a 510 big bore for the R. Up around here a ported 330R is fastet than ported 370 shees, and the shees cost more (because of the twin)

This may be true but the "R" is getting pretty old. Yes some banshee's are but I would think that a newer banshee would be more reliable. But with anything it matters how well you take care of it. As for the 2 of everything, this sucks, and is great at the same time. But with anything motorized, If you wanna go fast it cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$

I know you guys love your 2 strokes but have ya concidered a thumper..... I know the dealer here in town in Phoenix says he cant sell shee's anymore and with the introduction of the 450's the 250r class is all but a memory... Don't get me wrong I loved my 250r.. I had an 87 and I think it was the best quad ever built, I recently sold it and bought a Raptor... Maybe cause i.m just gettin old but I sure do like that electric start and this thing whales. I'm not sayin to buy one .....but to consider the options and check out the thumpers... They are the future( unfortunatly)TextTextGood luck man. It's a hard choice but if you stick with a 2 stroke... I would concider the shee... it is sweet. Lots of technology since the 250.

well a great reason to buy a 2-stroke for drags is simply because they are faster. take a 250R for example. slap on a 1100$ 330 kit (this includes porting) 200$ carb, 100$ reed cage, 200$ pipe. add on about 400$ for tires, gears ect. Make some home made struts for the front, and tie the back down. After all of this you have spent about 2000$ Now, diffrent co. cost diffrent amounts of money. so about 2000 give or take a few hundred. After that you got a bike (if tuned right) that goes about 4.8 (300ft). Iv never heard of a 4-stroke with that amount of money put into it go that fast.... well not yet anyways.

Take my R for another example. All it has for performance mods are a top end pipe, replacment reeds, thinner head gasket than stock and a uni filter. I tie it down and re-jet it every race for the best performance, and it also has a secret break in on it. It goes 5.4-5.5 (dont beleave me? look in my pictures) Im defintly not bragging about that time BUT for a nearly stock bike thats ripin. same for the shee, add some pipes comp. and jetting and youl be in sub 5 range also. I still have yet to see any 4-stroke (exept the new YFZ) do that good with the same mods.

2-strokes are just better for drags. Both 2 and 4 strokes have there strenths and weaknesses

Actually I have considered a thumper. However, I sold a 2002 Raptor to get my 250R. Currently the only four stroke I would even consider would have to be the Yamaha 450 or the DS650. I am really thinking about just going ahead and getting a ported 330 top end for my 250, and just keeping it forever.
