Default Is deal on 2 Mojave's ($1,800) good? Any advice?

I appreciate any advice guys! The deal offered us is, 2- 1988 Mojave 250's, two serial numbers apart, one w/ rack, both look good, minor crack in left rear fender of one. One had carb work last year (plastic gasket replaced at intake??) because it was difficult to start, runs well now. The other has a high idle that is difficult to adjust out with adjustment screw on carb, but runs well otherwise. Both run well considering they have sat all winter, with same gas, oil, plugs, airfilters, from previous season. Both appear stock, good rubber on both, two owners; first were older couple used for trail riding in national forest. They are to be used by my thirteen-year-old son and me for aggressive trail riding. We are not big people, they seem to fit us well. $1,800 for both, is it a good deal?? Again, thanks for any input.

Sounds like a deal.I would get them for your 13yr old son.
I would get something else for "aggressive trail riding" though.

Thanks for your reply. We are first-time quad buyers and my definition of aggressive may be different than yours. Could you please elaborate on your "one thumb down" for the Mojave for aggressive "trail" riding. Thanks.

My Mo has seen many agressive trails. Rocks the size of basketballs, Sand dunes, Jumps etc. It has taken everything I can throw at it. There's one hill near me called "Widomaker" and I can't get up that, but neither can my friends of bigger quads.

I watched a bunch of 500Cc 2-stroke dirt bikes trying it yesterday and only 2 of 7 made this hill.

You prolly should replace the stock skid plate under the swing arm if your gonna be near any rocks. Mine lasted 45 minutes and was hitting the chain and rotor on my 1st ride.

Thanks for the reply. Did the pipe improve performance on your Mojave? If so how? Is it much louder than stock? Do you think that parts will be hard to get for an '88?
Thanks again

The pipe really woke the quad up. Much more power everywhere. It's loud. Too loud. I was running the 8 discs, removed 4 and power went down. Put 2 back in and it runs good but is still too loud. I've repacked the muffler with everything from actual muffler packing stuff to home insulation.

Nothing helps and it blows out quickly which makes it even louder. I usually ride with an ear plug in my right ear because it gives me a headache.

As far as parts go. They still make the Mojave. There's not much changed besides tire sizes and colors.

Sounds like a good deal however be sure to check the rear axle bearings for excessive play (wear)

Just remember, Mojave's have MAJOR topend problems. The cams, timing chain, and valves are a real weak spot. I have seen many mojaves with these problems.
