whats the best way to 'break in' a quad first when u buy it brand new. ur supposed to go easy on it for the first 4 tanks or so of gas frm what i heard... but i have heard a few different ways of doing this and i was wondering if there was a certain best way or does it matter?

I went through about a tank and a half never hitting the rev limiter and she broke in fine.I can almost ride all day on a tank of gas too.

This might sound like a dumb question, but what is a rev limiter?

i sorta know what it is... ever hear a ds650 in the air when they rev them up? its like it wont let them rev high... it makes a sputtering sound or something..
anyways back on topic, a guy i know with a raptor told me that he wend to like a quarter to half throttle with his bike for the first 4 or 5 tanks of gas, then after that for a couple of tanks he would rev it up a lot while driving, but only for a sec..

A rev limiter is something that will prevent you from getting you revs above a certain point...

My dealer told me that the break in period was 40 hours which is roughly 5 tanks of gas. I made sure I never hit the rev limiter in any gear. My dealer also told me not to run any long periods at the smae speed or rpm's. And I didn't open wide open at all. After about 10 hours I changed the oil.

Go fairly easy through a couple of heat cycles, warming it all the way up then letting it cool off. Drive it around easy, let the tranny gears mesh, let the cams talk to their followers, etc. Then start feeding it gas through the gears, a few runs at 1/4 throttle, a few with 1/3, a few with 1/2, a few with 3/4. The rings need gas pressure to seat. When you do these runs don't pull in the clutch when you slow down, let the engine compression bring you down. This high vacuum time clears the cylinder of crud.

If you drive around babying it for 4 tanks of gas you won't ever seat the rings and it will never run right.
