Karange, what he means is to warm the bike up fully. Ride it around, go easy though. You want it completely up to operating temperature. Probably a 20 minute ride would do this. Then you let it sit and COMPLETELY cool back down. Do the same thing again. The bike will get pretty warm as there is a lot of friction in the new motor.
During this time the components are all starting to mesh nicely. Any sharp spot are taken off. Kinda like sanding a wood table. Get all those corners knocked down. Nice and smooth.
Then you start making a few runs through the gears. Taking it up a notch each successive time. I have to admit I didn't know about the not pulling the clutch in to slow down. I'll have to remember that one. Makes sense.
One day of riding and you'll have it broken in nicely. And don't forget CHANGE THE OIL. You want to get all those nasty little chunks of metal out of the motor/tranny.
The whole 40 hrs thing is insane. That could take some people 6 mos. to accomplish. An insane riding weekend for me is maybe 10 hrs. Some people do 5 and that's it.
