I'm looking for a quad but really cant figure out if i should go util or sport. most of my riding will be creekbeds, riverbanks, fields with jumping and mudslinging, But i also go to Colorado and New Mexico for a month a year so i want something that can handle some hill climbing
I'm looking at something in the 250cc range, mainly because of size... fits in my truck bed.

Well dont base your WHOLE judgement on size we can fit my dads Grizzly in the back bed of his truck.(F-250) Yes its a somewhat tight fit but it WILL work. But if the price is a situation then you may want stay around the smaller 250cc range.

Sport or utility? I got my bike last December, I was asking myself the same question. I went with a Sport style, well sorta, I got a Polaris Sport 400L. This is an awesome 4 wheeler, I never intend to jump, but I do like to go fast. Price was also a factor for me, I got a good deal on a 99 model when 2000's were out. Anyway from my experience I'd say if your going to go mudding and rock climbing, you'll need 4x4, I wish I had it now, but its to late. You can still get a sporty 4x4. The Scrambler, but its a 400 and 500cc. The Explorer (this is the one I wish I got) but its 400cc. The next sporty would be the Wolverine, a very good cross from everyone who owns one, a 350cc. After that would be the explorer 250 4x4, a very good bike, but not very fast, not very sporty. On the other side, if you stay out of the mud, and watch the rocky hills, then any 250 range sport quad will be a lot of fun. My advice would to go with one that has reverce. That was a must for me, and I'm very glad I have it. Hope this helps, I wish I would have gotten more responce when I ask the same thing in November. Good luck

If you don't need racks or plan on hauling anything go sport. If you have enough power and skill you will never need 4 wheel drive. As far as size my buddy hauls his 400EX in the back of an S-10.

I have a 1999 Polaris Trailblazer for sale for 2,500. It can go through mud good if you wanted to and it can climb hills real good.

I would go with the wolverine. I think hinda makes a kinda sporty 4x4 i would go wiht that over the wolverine becasue of relaibality. I think it has many of the same features as teh warrior and i know that is a P.O.S as far as reliability
