I dont think I can keep anything stock. Im looking at mods for kids eton 90. I am always for the next thing to do to my quad also. Ill buy another one and just have to change everything on it also. If I dont have my quads to tinker with I would go crazy

I would imagine the taller riding position and skinnier stance of the raptor would make those people less secure on the hill and more ready to turn off from it. Just a thought. The raptor has more torque, but makes fewer hp than the yfz and pred.

1 bad thing about the yfz is maint. Doesnt the manufacturer recommend piston replacement every 12 hrs of riding? I heard that the piston skirt is cut so short that the manufacturer recommends replacement of piston every 12 riding hours. I know that is one of the reason the machine has so much power but I would think that would get old real quick.

By what the dealer finally told me it was a piston kit every 12 riding hours. But apparently you are right on people are not doing it, maybe because no dealer wants to talk about it at the time of sale. I talked to almost every dealer in eastern iowa on the yamaha and honda 450's and none of them wanted to admit how high maint these machines are untill I pressed them to see a manual then they admitted it. In my quest towards buying another sport quad the 450's both yamaha and honda were at the top of my list until I got what seemed to be shady info. about their recommended maint. I dont have a problem with a high maint machine but something about the dealers lack of being upfront about it shyed me away from them. That is why I have decided to go with a ds(per peoples opinions here on this site). I know and understand few people follow the manufactures guidelines on maint. but I sure hate to see what that bill will be when the piston skirt breaks and takes out a 4 stroke. Piston, rod, valves, head possibly more...... Get ready to drop some serious cash! Just my .02

well they tell you on the two strokes to change the pistons quite often also. I have seen two strokes run for years on the same pistons. So I dont know how necessary that is. Maybe if your a professional racer and all those twelve hours are racing the track or something but I dont think they will need to be done that often

they definitly dont need to be done that often... i mean come on... its has barely broken in at 12 hours... its all an ***-covering game... i will put my "hozed" garuntee that almost any 450 out there that has been taken care of, will show hardly any wear (if any) to the piston and rings after a 200 hours...

Hey if you will put a 200 hour guarantee on the motor not blowing, I will definately think of getting one. Just need an address to send the bill and pic of hour meter if the thing blows to get reimbursed! HEHEHE jk! But seriously I too am sure it doesn't need replaced that often, however it just makes you wonder since the manufacture had it specifically stated! I mean we all know about the banshee's reliability issues and they didnt even say the pistons needed done every 12 riding hours. Just makes me a little skeptical. With any high performance quad reliability does go down but every 12 hours........

Probably to save their ***. Lets say if your yfz just to happen to blow you take back to the dealer to have it replaced and they say "Did you replace the piston every 12 hours" you say no and they probably won't fix it.(for free)

Anyways i have 80+ hours on mine and there's nothin wrong yet

well, that is really what those bikes are meant for: racing. ur right though that not everyone is using it for that. but i can't get why pepole spend 7,000 on an atv with mx ready suspention, way too much unused power for trails, kickstart (at least of them has it), no reverse (which isn't really a big deal but still hints toward racing).
