Mongoose 250

I know if I was buying for my wife, I'd want full auto. She just doesn't get the concept of gears.
I haven't heard anything bad about the mongoose. Whoever was wanting the pipe, you can buy universal slip-on silencer. See if the Supertrapp will work.
I would also look at the Polaris models. Which one would depend on what type of terrain will you guys be riding on? I would think most females would prefer a 4-stroke to the smoke and strong smell of a 2-stroke. Maybe a Trailboss?

I looked at the Mongoose prior to buying our quads. I bought the Polaris trailblazer. What I liked about the Trailblazer over the Kymco was the longer suspension travel (8.2/10 inches versus 5.9/6.7) , wider, longer, taller chassis that I felt translates to a smoother more stable ride. I personally prefer the struts on the Trailblazer versus the double a-arms on the Kymco. The tires on the trailblazer were bigger/wider. The trailblazer was also cheaper (because of 2004 end of year buy) 2800 for the trailblazer versus 3396 for the kymco ( I could not get anything off the Kymco). I was also concerned about the manufacturer; I did not know anything about Kymco. I suspect that many women (there are exceptions) would prefer the automatic on any quad and single handle braking of the Trailblazer.

And that was a good suggestion, about the slip-on pipe. Didn't think about that

If it's water cooled, you might be able to use an ashless oil which will help reduce smoke. But it's not recommended for air cooled machines. I've owned 6 2-strokes and some smoked more than others. Most likely due to jetting. My mini-quad smokes a lot less now, after the mods. But I rejetted it around 7 times with various mains and needle settings trying to get it right!. Pain, but worth it.

Hers is stock, and she hasn't complainedAnd she is a picky person about smells

Raptorlegs, I think you hit it on the head, when you mentioned jetting. If it's off, you blow the top -end (too lean) and when your running to rich, you get the smoke And all that re-jetting is a pain in the azz

Rescuediver, you raise an interesting point about your wife's 400. My wife does not notice any smell from our new Trailblazers. I couldn't really smell anything either. However, my wife complains badly about the smell from our Skidoos and Seadoos and the smoke hurts our eyes if it accumulates. One difference I see is that I run Bombardier XPS-II in the other two stokes. I run Polaris Semi-synthetic in the Trailblazers. What oil do you run in your wife's 400?

Bryce, right now, I'm using Suzuki CC1 2 stroke oil in it. The only reason I'm running Suzuki is, friend was working at the Suzuki dealer, at the time I bought alot of it, at a great price.
And, Welcome to the Forum

One of the other things, that might be an issue on smoke and smell is, pre-mix versus injected. Her 400L is injected. Only have to fill it after about 8 fill ups of fuel
