a lotof quads back then were two strokes also. now everything is four strokes which arent as fast
i have a z250 and felt it underpowered after about a year. id suggest you get a 400

 

Hey old grump, I just joined this site to give you my two cent's. I was in the same boat back in october 04. I'm 6'4 and weigh in at 260 lbs, I've been riding for just over 20 year's now and i remember it the same as you. I've had 250r's both 3 & 4 wheel's Back in the day , in fact i bought a atc250r brand new in 86, having said that i also remember that the last time i was really into riding the 250x was the big dawg four stroke on the block, in fact the 300ex hadn't even been released yet. And yes i had a 250x too, i had a lot of fun on that thing, but these's day's to have a so called real quad it must be 400 cc's or bigger. Well i hope i don't rub anyone the wrong way since i'm new to the site and all but that is bull, not everyone need's to smoke through the wood's at 75mph or jump 20 feet in the air. In fact some people just want to ride for the fun of it, so when i went looking for a wheeler i remembered back to the day's when a 250 was just fine. I looked for reliability and not so much size. To make a long story short i bought a 250ex, I piped & jetted it and ride the hell out of it. To this point i've had my ex in mud up to the fender's with no problem's, I've also never failed to make it up any hill i've tried in 2nd gear. To get to the point my 250ex has plenty of power for me, don't get me wrong all the 400's and 450's are much faster I just don't need all that. my 250r day's are over. By the way at 6'4 i'm not cramped on the 250, so in my opinion youl be just fine on a 250z or ex. Just my two cent's. P.S sorry for the length of the post.

 

Well Guys, I finally did it. Today I bought me a 2005 Z-400 White w/Blue frame and stripes. I got a great deal on it, the dealer was trying to get rid of his inventory to make room for the new 06 models coming next month. He assured me that the only changes would be the colors for the yellow would have a blue seat. The bike is pretty fast, and I dont think I needed to wait for the Z-450. The Z-400 is fast enough for me. Thanks for all your input and opinions.

I bought the LTZ250 in white yesterday, for myself and I am 5' 7"
it fits me fine. I love it. I plan to pass it down to my son in a
couple of years and get a 350 or 400.
