i gotta 04 dvx400 and my chain stretched a lot. i have the adjuster all the way out and its still pretty slack.. so i'm wondering if i gotta get a new chain or if i can take a link outta my chain. if so how do i go about taking a link out. thanks

to take a link out i grind off the top of the pin that you want to remove and then use a chain breaker or some people use a vise and a punch or a press and press the pin out. then you just get a new master link for the size of chain i think its a 520 and then you put it on and adjust iot appropriatly. never reuse the old master link unless your like out on the trail or something, even then you should carry a spare master link. master links are cheap, dont skimp out,

Despite how cheap and easy it is to pop out a link and reuse your old chain, if you are out of adjustment, your chain is SHOT, replace it. By taking out a link, you will take out slack, but put a lot more strain on the teeth of your sprockets, since it is stretched out so bad, you have effectively changed the pitch,or distance between the links, so running it tight with a link out, you accelerate the wear on the sprockets, and will end up needing to replace everything. If you sprockets are still good, no hooks or worn points, buy a new chain. You run the risk of a worn out chain snapping and putting a hole in your case, is that worth keeping an old worn out chain ???

D.I.D. makes an excellent o-ring chain, Sidewinder, there are several good brands, just make sure you get an o-ring chain. Depending on your number of links, you will be looking to spend 50 to 75 bucks for a good chain, but it will last you a long time, just keep it cleaned and adjusted, put a little chain lube on after a long ride, and you shouldn't have any problems for a very long time.
