400 EX vs Warrior 350
#1
This past summer a guy had an '02 warrior for sale and I was an still am really tempted to buy it.
The guy has put just about everything on the bike without having to touch the motor.
New Plastic, Skin graphics, adjustable axle, powdercoated the frame, works shox, steering stablilizer, aftermarket tires and rims, stainless brake lines etc... The quad is super clean!!!!
He supposedly set the bike up for trail riding but now has no time to ride since he just had a newborn.
He said that he put about 2k in accesories on the bike.
Along with the warrior he also said that he would give me all of the stock plastic etc. with a helmet and riding pants. He was asking 3200 obo but without having to say anything he already went to 3000. Would you offer the guy 2700 or start looking for a decent 400ex?
I personally like hondas better but have a lot of buddies that ride yamaha.
Note: I am new to sport quads and would greatly appreciate your input!

A clean, well taken care of quad can be hard to pass up, especially when the price is attractive. That Warrior sounds like a good buy. $2700.00 and I would be tempted to jump on it. How long do you plan on keeping it? What models do your buddies ride? With a 400EX you will get better handling and suspension, more power, but lose reverse(not a big deal IMHO) If you just started looking, hold out a bit longer and look for that 400. The market for used Warriors isn't that great since there are a lot of them and also quite a few faster models out in the past few years, so that one may be for sale for a while.

I plan on mostly trail riding but would like to have some fun and open her up a little too. I am still very tempted with that Warrior but with all of the reviews I have been reading the 400 ex is looking mighty fine also.
What is the difference between the 400 Fourtrax ex and the regular ex?
How is the acceleration on a 400?
How can you get better acceleration without lossing the top end?
Why would you want a four stroke over a two stroke? And vice versa

my warrior was great, it is practically bulletproof. i drag raced several 400ex's and beat all but one (the one that beat me had about 3k in it). it is great for any kind of riding, and it is a great beginners quad.

2005 and 2006 400exs have reverse. They're probably a bit more than you're looking to spend but it's something to keep in mind in case you end up spending more (I know I did ).

-Descently fast, but definately faster than the Warrior. For strictly trail riding a Warrior is great, but in reality it is a pig.
-Pipe and filter
-For you I would definately say 4-stroke. They are great in trails and reliable, the 400ex and Warrior are bullet proof!
It is up to you, there is a lot of used models for each. If you think you are going to want a little more performance, go with the ex. If you don't care and just want to trail ride, either will be fine.
BTW, 05' and 06' 400ex's have reverse.
