Default which is the best quad for me?

Hi
At the moment i ride a YZ125.
I have been asking on some other forums about quads and thought i would ask on this one since it is not make specific.
I would be driving on fields and ditches and gravel roads. I would want a quad that is really fast and handles good and good suspension. prefer a quad that is not tooo expensive.
thnx
calum
PS i am not gonna be getting one any time soon, I am just wondering.

well thats a pretty tall order, and a hard decision at that. anyway, a really fast quad would be one like the YFZ450, its like riding a rock though, hardest thing ever untill you spend a $1000 USD and get Elka's, im sure your not looking into doing that though. if you want a really nice suspention, the predator is for you, it has the nicest stock suspention out there, having Fox podium X shocks all around with piggy back resivoirs. and it handles good too. but i think your looking more so for something like a 2005 honda TRX450R

and as far as not expensive, unless you consider $6500 USD not expensive, probebly try looking for a used quad.

heres your list:

Yamaha YFZ450
Honda TRX450R (ER)
Polaris Predator TLD (LE)

thnx for the reply.
when did they begin making the TRX450R?
I heard they have a frontward kick start that true? if so how does it compare to a normal kick start?
how does somthing like a banshee or quadzilla compare to those quads you mentioned? would you recommend them or not?
thnx

Id say take a look at the 06 z400's and trx400ex's. They have awesome susp. and are faster than your bike and have reverse. or look at getting a used 450...like an 04. the 450r started in 03'. zilla500 would rape the 450's banshee is awesome once you pipe it. if your gonna be doing anything bigger than 8' high jumps the susp is gonna be hurtin.

How fast will the 400`s go? Is the 400ex reliable seeing as it does not have liquid cooling?
how responsive is the zilla to mods?
zilla, banshee, 400`s which would be the best for fields, roads and ditches?
which is the best yr of quadracer 500?
thankyou
-Calum
PS how much speed or power does the piping the banshee add?
PPS how much would you expect to pay for a zilla (not sure of the yr) in running and driving condition? Except it fouls plugs for some reason. any ideas why?

400's will go fast enough for you. about 115km/hr or so. you cant go that fast for long. the longest i did it for was on a farmroad and i went for about 5min and after i was tired lol. the 400ex is one of the most reliable bikes around...its bulletproof. zilla is very responsive to mods as are all 2-strokes. seeing as how you like to go fast and do mostly fields ditchs etc I would either get the banshee if you want a 2-smoke or a 400ex if you want to go thumper. You can get like a 2000 400ex or banshee for roughly $3500-4400. thats canadian lol. we both are from canada so ya. i imagine the best year qracer is 89' just cause that was the last year i believe. piping a banshee and other minor mods like airbox etc will probably get you a good 20% more power and with 4strokes you be looking at 10-15%. zillas and such are fairly old and hard to find but you could expect to pay around 3-4K for one in running condition. 2-strokes go threw plugs faster than 4-strokes and if its fouling plugs lots it could be lean.

Well first of all, what is your experiance on quads? What kind of riding do you do with the yz125 you have now? How old/big are you? What price range are you looking at?

Torbinx actually I believe 1990 was the last yr of the zilla how come a banshee are zilla`s not suited to ditches and fields? or just hard to find?
I know a guy who has a zilla that he does not use much. Not sure if he would sell if i offered him enough
1bad450r on my yz 125 i just drive on fields, gravel roads and ditches I live on a farm so there is lots of fields
Experience on quads hhhmm a tinsy winsy bit on some polaris 4x4 a few yrs back.
this spring a tiny bit on a Zilla so much fun that quad
I had a old snowmobile that i drove, does that take the same skills as a quad? age 15, height about 5`11, weight around 140lbs or a lil bit less.
price range none yet
I need to work this coming summer hopfully and earn some money
I am just figuring out what would be a good quad.
thnx

You, my friend, are the perfect candidate for one of the older 250 2-strokes or a Banshee. These quads are fast and relatively cheap for the HP you get. There are a ton of used Banshees out there, and replacement parts will be easy to find for years. The Banshee is a great quad for riding through fields and farm roads, not so great at tight technical trailriding. Plus, you already have 2-stroke experience with your bike.

lt250r or trx250r would give you everything you need. the lt250 quadracer is way cheaper though. 87 and up has a powervalve and has huge bang for the buck imo . easy wheelies, close to 70 mph, tire shredding fun. im trying not to be biased....but i love my r.
