Default Spyder6 look here

I noticed we have the same quad and was wondering if the K&N made a noticable difference in power. Also, have you lined up with any yfz450's? My friend has one and I want to know what to expect before we ride. I only have 1hr ride time on my quad so far and cant wait to get back on it!!!! My last quad was a 02' Yamaha Banshee with some nice upgrades and this Predator feels so much stronger. Hit me back with some info so I can rest my wondering mind.

im in the process of mounting my K&N actually, im having a bit of bad luck installing my Dyno-Jet kit so i can actually run it. im not using a drop in K&N though. ive removed the stock intake box and taken a round K&N filter that fits the sportsmans in take and mounted it to the carburator. it fits perfectly and should suck alot more air than just a drop in filter, the only worry is water getting up to it, long way for water to jump though.

i havnt lined up with any YFZs, as no one around me has them. no one around here is really skill qualified (exept me ) to ride them. however my friend Josh up the street, resently got a 2006 TRX450ER and we dragged. his wasnt broken in yet at the time, but i beat him by about 2 quad lengths.

spyder6, you should put a outerwear on that K&N because water and dirt always seems to find a way to get there. The first time you have to tear apart the carb and clean it you will never not have it on there again and its cheap.

yeah, thanks hoopie, i was actually planning on it, but you reminded me to pull it out of the bottom of the box. as far as the jetting and K&N, i put it all on today and ran it and its fantastic. an interesting story at that. im using a 170 main jet (150 stock) and the needle clip is set on either the 3erd or 4th clip, i forget. but it runs great. i have never felt a quad pull so strong on top end before, its like a whole new power band was dropped in. i also turned out the mixture screw 3.5 turns.

as far as the story...

i just got done putting it all back together with the new jets and needle, fine tweaking everything, making sure there wasnt andy black smoke or my headers were glowing. just commenting to my dog on how loud my quad is now (dont ask) so i shut it off, roll it out of the barn, check the oil, all the connections to the carb and to see if i left anything laying anywere and i start it up. first rotate of the starter and she purrs away. i adjust the idle, get back on, put my helmet and gloves on and im off. i cant really feel too much of a difference at first. i let my motor warm up and i start to get on it a little more. i drop down from 4th gear into 3erd and round a tree and hammer it to see if i can break my rear tires loose, and low and behold my front end comes up and im riding a wheelie through a holeshot.

now if you ask me, thats something that just dosnt happen regularly. pulling through high revs in third gear and your engine is pulling so much top end that your front end comes up off the ground.

now maybe the pred can do that and i never put it through its paces like i should have, but this thing really flys now.

tommarow im going to go and get some new allen head screws for my carburator because these things were a complete bitch to get out. seriously, unless you have a 1/4 inch impact driver handy and you know how to use it, dont even bother trying to jet it. anyway, when i pull my carb off to put the new allen heads on, im gonna see if i can manage to put a 175 jet on and move my needle clip all the way to the top. cuz the more fuel i can dump in, the faster it'll go for me from a 50 dollar mod.

good luck with yours!

Yep spyder...that sounds about right. I was surprised at the power at the top also. I was doing some trails, and would lug along in third, then get on it, and she would go I tell ya...big different with the filter and jetting.

Another thing I just did, don't know if it will make that much difference though. Instead of buying more plates and screws for the pipe, I went to Lowes and grabbed a dozen 1/8th inch spacers. Put those between a couple of the plates to open it up even more. I'll see how that feels tomorrow.

Why dont you do a plug chop and see were its at first before you change jets? it may be perfect were its at. A bigger jet doesnt necessary mean better or faster.
I have heard the horror stories about the pred carb and jetting and thats why I havent done any more mods to mine because I dont want to rejet and deal with that garbage anymore. Every story i heard said they striped the allens out of the carb trying to take it apart.

Currently I have just the drop in k&n and pp exhaust with 12 disks(4 additional) that comes with the LE model. I would like to get the rath header for it but then i have to rejet. I personally think its fast enough the way it is and I didnt have to rejet for it. I turned up the air screw 1 and 1/2 turns. Though i would love that extra torque of the rath header. Im also concerned with reliability because from my experiance the more mods you go the less reliable they are and Im sick of working on them all the time. I use to have a honda 250r that i worked on more than I rode because nothing was stock but the frame.

by the way, I noticed that when i went from 8 to 12 disks my top end really took off but it had a little less low end. If i go down to 4 disks it feels like riding a raptor (catwalks) but no top end.

Yea Hoopie, one of the things allot of folks, including spyder, are doing is replacing those crappy brass phillips head screws in the carb with some descent allens. That way, if you have to rejet, it's not such a pain in the ***. I heard the horror stories too, so I decided to pay to have someone do it. Well worth not having to deal with stripping the screws. If you do jet again, get those screws and replace them. Replacements are readily available. Also, I understand that Rath headers should add allot to the bottom end.

yeah, but i figure, the jets really dont start working untill your vacume opens up and pulls all the fuel through, so if it runs fine on bottom end, and if i can fit a bigger jet in and still make it run fine, then it should be hell to keep the front wheels down

as far as plug checking is conserned, i really dont wanna go through the hassel of taking my front plastics off and my tank off to get to the damn thing, but i guess i'll have to later on. if it starts idleing rough and lagging a little i'll pull it out and see if its all black, and i'll replace it with a good plug and tweak my settings.

as far as the carb, it comes with phillups head screws, and they strip like crazy, thats why you really need the impact driver, i wanna replace them with some allen heads though so if they ever get stuck in there, an di need to get them out, the allen head wont strip like the damn screws.

thats why im on christmas break anyway, to have a crap load of free time and not know what to do with any of it
