Need honest un-biased opinions

I own both. The Z is quite a bit faster than the EX. My EX has a full aftermarket exhaust, vented airbox lid, etc. I was riding with a stock Z once, down a long desert wash. The Z just slowly walked away from me, no matter what I did.

I have a custom EX, no motor work aside from LTE exhaust, filter and CDI. Installed a 14t front sprocket and hillshooting against a piped Z-400 I was able to win by 1/2 quad length at most. The difference was that the sprocket in the sand helped me hold 3rd gear longer, and my suspension system gave me the needed edge through the whoops, so I could carry a higher speed at the bottom of the hill.
That said, if I was to buy today, I'd get the Z. It is a real nice quad.
If you have an EX, do the basics, have fun and remember that while you can go faster on other quads, your EX motor will probably last longer between rebuilds than the new crop of 4 strokes.
