Me???

If so, I still got my Warrior for now, still trying to save up. I'm thinking about the Outlaw still, but I do realize some of the disadvantages of it. I'm an "only trail" type of rider, which is one of the reasons I looked at the Outlaw in the first place.

How slow can you go with out having to ride the clutch in 1st?

Budweiser,
How slow will it go without riding the clutch? The Outlaw will go about 6 - 7 mph.
One day, last week, I rode a 42 mile loop in southwest Idaho. I started about 2,300 foot elevation, about 65 degrees. When I got to about 6,700 foot elevation (forest), by then it was about 70 degrees, the idle had to be readjusted (jetting is set between 0 to 6,000 and for 40 to 80 degrees). I rode into a backcountry mining town called Silver City at about 6,200 foot elevation. Silver City is posted 5 mph. It was difficult to travel slowly (riding the clutch) through the town. There was about 35 other ATV riders that got into the area that day. All were large utility ATVs, except for two Polaris Trail Boss sports quads. Had lunch with a friend, then rode to another area, dropping in elevation. I rode into area OHV area called Rabbit Creek at about 2,800 foot elevation (high desert), then about 80 degrees). Idle was ok, but hard to keep it slow in the OHV unloading / trailhead area. Visited with some motocross (dirt bike) friends , then shot through a bunch of whoops on a trail, back to our truck in another area.
Early this week, I rode another OHV area called Pleasant Valley that was mainly fast trails, whoops, sand washes, and some jumps. It was about 2,600 foot elevation and 70 degrees at the beginning and about 85 degrees at the end of the ride. The Outlaw performed great. Though again it did not going slow in the OHV parking areas. So far my Polaris Outlaw gets about 18.2 miles per gallon.
I discussed my concern about the Polaris Outlaw inability to travel slow in unloading / camp areas with some of my dirt bike friends. We decided to drop a tooth in the front spocket to slow it down. Of course the obviously that will drop the top end (probable from 71 mph to about 65 mph or so).
Sorry, I'm long winded.
Did you consider the Yamaha Wolverine 450 4x4 as a trail quad? If you don't do a lot of whoops, dunes, and jumps, it maybe the machine. I read in comments by users, it climbs as good as other 4x4, but handles better in tight trails similar to other 2x4 sport quads. As the original writer finally choose, I definitely like the Raptor 700 with EFI, no jetting problems and the super power, especially if you don't travel rocky rough terrain. I don't know your terrain in enough.
LW.

Those sound like awsome trips!! I wish there was something just close to that in NY!

And, the 700R is better for no jetting probs and stuff, but then again, you have to bring it to the dealer to get it properly ajusted by computers when you add stuff ( I think? )

My terrain varries from 3,000 ft.- 0 ft. I only ride trails, no track, and there are a lot of hilll climbs, slow, moderate speed areas, nothing really fast. Did the dropped tooth in front allow you to go about 3-5 mph? Also, how fast do you go through a tank of gas since you said you used to get 18.2?

About the Wolerine 450, I have ridden with someone that had one, and they look and ride great. But I don't think I ready yet to switch over to a auto yet; plus I love riding a manual.

Budweiser,
I ordered the spocket. Probable receive it and in by Wednesday. So later this coming week, I'll be out and about.
I'll probable take it out on small set of sand dunes, called Steck Dunes (100 acres) along the Snake River to test the Outlaw. The dunes I'm going to aren't super steep and dry like Imperial Dunes, Glamis, California. I have paddle tires, but I won't put them on for that area. I probable open it to test top end. I have a Garmin V GPS unit with Ram mount on the bottom of the handlebars. The Outlaw doesn't a speedometer or trip odometer, so I use a mounted GPS unit.

The 18.2 mpg was trail riding. When I glance at my speeds on the trails, they varied from about 13 mph to 35 mph. It seemed that the mpg was slightly better on smooth trails maybe about 19 mpg, more aggressive motocross trails about 17 mpg. I don't how the mpg on true (dry & steep) sand dunes, perhaps about 11 mpg with paddle tires.

It seems that the Raptor 700 with EFI would not need any adjustments for elevations. That aside, are the areas you ride fairly smooth free of large rocks and logs. The reason, I ask is the Outlaw's real value is rough terrain: rocks & large holes. In the Idaho desert we have badger holes. The smaller holes, I shoot right over. Larger holes (size of a small to large ATVs, I avoid. I agree about the automatic on a Wolverine. I believe Wolverine only has forward, reverse, & neutral with compression braking. Of course you tested them. If the Wolverine had the transmission likes it brother the Kodiak 450, it would be better. Also if you desire a machine that can travel slower on some technical trails, but not with large rocks, what about 400EX?

If your looking for a perfect trail riding quad that has the power there when need why wouldnt you take a look at the kfx700. I do mostly trail riding and this thing is perfect, high ground clearance, no chain to worry about, power for mud holes, and power for open trail riding. The auto isnt a bad thing when riding some of the trails i do but shifting makes it alittle more fun. I would have to say kfx700 for best trail quad.

kfx700 as best trail quad? sorry buddy i have to disagree. I am not biased one bit, the best trail quad IMO is the z400, excellent suspension, awesome power, excellent handling everything is crazy on that bike it will do anything, although i did chose the 660r over it because i wanted the extra power. 400ex are good but need a tune up

I guess it really all depends on your riding areas, because if you knew what i ride here in saint john new brunswick canada then you might change your mind. I know the z400/kfx400 are awesome bikes because i tryed one before picking the v or the kfx400 and the v force just worked out better on the trails for me. Althought i would rather be shifting lol

The KFX700's are nice but not the best trail quad IMO.

The smaller KFX400 and the 400ex's do better I think. In technical trails anyways.

I had a z400 for a while, and It made a great trail quad. I never had any problems with lugging it in tight technical stuff. After I modded it a little bit, It stayed with the 450's at race pace in the woods.
