Does anyone know the best chain lube to use for my 2002 400ex. My chain has alot of grit and grime on it because i ride in alot of sand mudd and water and i want to get it off. My uncle mentioned a product called JP-1 but ive never heard of it. ANY SUGGESTIONS???????

 

You have to clean all the crap off first, get it as clean as you can.

I've been using Bel-Ray O-ring safe chain lube for a long time. A lot of guys hate it because it leaves a white gunk all over. But the gunk does not hurt anything it just looks dirty.

A lot of companies make a good chain lube, I think they are probably all pretty good these days. Just go to your local dealer and see what they have on the shelf. My dealer carries Honda Lube and Bel-ray. I've used both with no problems.

 

i use spray on chain wax. i clean the chain in some solvent, let it dry, and spray the stuff on. works great, and it doesnt splash all over it stays on the chain.

 

I have heard a lot if people using WD40 because it does not attrack more grit into you chain. Most chains are O-ring types and really dont need a lot of lubrication they just need to be kept clean.

 

Maxima chain wax. It dosent sling off.Great stuff!!

 

I have kinda settled on Curls suggestion. I have used wax, oil and WD40. And I wonder how good it is for the chain to use a heavy lubricant that attracts dirt. I clean my chain after every outing. And when I use a heavy oil, the dirt sticks to it and I wonder if it will just destroy the chain due to the abrasive nature of the dirt in the oil. So I have gone back to WD40. Its easy to clean, doesn't rust and it doesn't attract the dirt.
I am curious to know what others have been doing.

I have been using Sidewinder synthetic chain lube, it is fantastic. Nowhere near the amount of crud buildup as conventional chain lube. It ain't cheap, but it IS worth it.

 

Did you know that WD 40's main ingrediant is KEROSENE? Very hard on your O rings. i have tried many, the chain lube I am sold on is Klotz KL R. It doesn't leave a residue and it doesn't attract dirt. Good stuff and all I do is race cross country. My chain is still like new after racing all this season.

 

I use Amsoil heavy duty Mp it doesn't build up alot.

 

they dont need lube,they just need cleaned so the crud doesn't damage the o-rings.any sticky crap will just attract grime. i use the chain wax because of this . only problem is you need to take a short run after cleaning to warm up the chain so the wax can penetrate the o-rings. it dries to a film so it doesnt attract grit. that yellow foaming lube on my 250r swinger gives me nightmares!!! LOL
