question on changing oil in z400
#1
Ok i dont know if this is a dumb question or not but when i change my oil i just drain the oil tank change filter and fill the tank back up, is that it or do you put the oil in the crank case, that bolt on the right side of motor just below filter housing because some peopl say that is where they put it. WHat is the correct way, thanks

Drain the oil tank, drain the crank case, the nut is on the bottom of the crank case not the side. Replace the old filter with a new one. Fill up the oil tank with the required amount of oil.
Start the engine let the oil circulate through the engine and filter. Recheck oil level on dipstick.

Make sure you put in the new filter the way the old one came out....otherwise you won't get any oil to the motor and it'll fry. figured this would be a good piece of info. good luck it's easy man

Yup, crakcase bolt is on the BOTTOM of the engine. And like they said, be sure the filter is in the right way. Some good info on oils: http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm
Honda put the 400EX cranckase bolt on the side......dumb idea! Makes a huge mess if you have a skid plate.

Ok the oil filter is supposed to go with the bigger hole in first toward the motor and the small one out, just wondering because when i changed my oil the filter that was in it to start with looked a little different than the one i got from the dealer. The crank case bolt is the one on the bottom left side of the motor where the little hole in the factory plastic skid plate is, let me know if that is the one. thanks for all the info
