but then again the raptor has lots of low end torque
first off your hp numbers are not that much, they are both around 43-44. anyway from what i have heard the predator is based off a dirt bike engine, while the raptor isn't, so the predator would have way more r&d than the raptor. the only reason the raptor doesn't have more power, is that im sure that yamaha tamed down thw raptors. trinity has a kit with cam, piston, filter, and programer that gave the rappy 70hp. also i have a 660 raptor with a few mods, and i regularaly beat predators with more money in there machines than me.

the raptor was based off something else, i doubt it was a dirtbike but it probably was a motorcycle of some sort. The 700r was based on the 660r unless im really messed up. (the only diff is 5 valves versus 4 right? i dont feel like checking it with slow dial-up internet) and the 660r was based on a motorcycle.....

but why does the 700rappy have such low compression, you can still run 87 octane gas with 10.6:1 compression, thats what ds250 has and it runs 87, but that is BARE minimum.

ya, it is true that the raptor gains a TON of power with just a few mods. but if it is so simple, why doesnt yamaha do it to begin with? why dont they jsut start off with a 10.5 or 11:1 piston???

by the way, does a quad with EFI gain more power when you add mods than a carb quad? cuz i think the 700r has 2mm bigger bore than the 700r, and the 700r has a single EFI thing, not 2 like most v-twins. So if you switch have a 2mm big bore 660r which makes it a 686, with a single carb......... versus a stock 700r.......... you add the exact same pipe to both of them, which gains more %% power?

Maybe Im out off line here but some of these post are a little whacky. Dont know about dunes because I move back to NC from CA about 8 yrs ago but here in NC the 700r with the same set up as the 450r (pipe, jet or pc, and filter) pulls the 450r from the top of 2nd up. The 450rs Ive ridden fall on their face after initial burst in midrange and the 700 doesnt. I will say the barkolounger suspension on the Rappy sucks in my opinion, way to soft for bigger ridders. But with upgraded shocks they perform very well. Track maybe 450r for smaller ridders, trails and all around 700. And I have to say I have always thought the 400ex was a huge pig-maybe great if you weigh a buck 50 or so but throw 240 lbs on it and you may as well walk. Needless to say Im not the greatest 4 stroke fan and coming from 2 strokes all of my life I had to switch when I moved back here, high powered banshees are not trail/woods quads by any means and they hate water. I only ride mine when I can open it up in a large open riding area- learned this lesson 3 yrs ago when the throttle hung wide open in 3rd coming off a 8 ft table top in the f%$%NG woods and meeting an oak tree head on, the helicopter effect through the forrest at 50+ mph is indeed a hair raising experieince.

TRX450R all the way, I absolutely love mine. Change your sprockets to 13/39 and add a HRC kit and you're set (A good pipe is a plus too). Suspension and ergos are great, plus it's very reliable. I have not ridden a 700, but I have raced and beaten 2.

for your information crazy 1291 the raptor 660 and 700 engines only share a few things, that would be the crank, and the stroke length. other than that they are two different machines. the 700r engines rev quicker, and are more effecient. the only reason yamaha doesnt give rappy a ton of power, is to make it easier to control, reliability, and im sure to cover themselves from being sued from inexperienced riders getting injured. also y your engine more power if it dont need it, the 700r is the fastest bike in its class.

and yes crazy 1291 im sure fairly that yamaha got the idea for the raptor from the xt660, but they share no similarities that i have seen; i might be wrong though.

as for the 660-700 power thing no they wouldnt create the same power, the 700r is a better, more effecient engine.
