Default TRX450 vs. Raptor 700r

I was wondering if anybody had one of these quads or knew a lot about them. I'm looking for a fast and light woods quad that i could take to the track everyonce in awhile. What does anybody think about either for the woods, and which one is better or worse. Thanks a lot.

well if your going to be riding in the woods alot i would suggest the 700R, it has reverse, plenty of power and you can take it to the tracks whenever you want, the 450R is both a good trail and mx machine but the lack of reverse in tight trails would make me lean more towards the raptor.

I'm with you there zilla .. but the 450r has a pretty good weight advantage over the rap ..

still though .. Rap is a better trail quad IMO ..

Just spent a weekend riding both of these machines. Love the power of the Raptor, but that is pretty much all I liked. The old Raptor 660 was tall and tippy, but the new Raptor is still to tall for my taste (but not tippy like the old one). Its suspension was good, but not as good as a 450. The ergonomics didn't please me much either. I would absolutely never want to ride one on the track!

The 450 has a great trail frame, but is geared kind of tall for trail riding.

My ultimate trail quads of all time are the Honda 300EX (if things are really tight), and the 400EX.

First off, one has to define in detail what a "trail" is. If you are really talking about a 50" wide trail, where you are squeezing between trees, and it is semi to full on technical, then 700 cc's of power is abolutely useless.......and size is a handicap.

But, what most folks actually mean by "trail" riding, is just cruising on something the width of a road, or less.

i agrea that the 400EX is a great trail quad, but once your out of the tight stuff it is just kind of a drag...

the Z400 with a droped tooth in front would be great in the woods.

the only thing is, the 400EX being air cooled gets hot riding realy slow in the tech stuff. thats were liquid cooling comes in!

I would certainly pick the Z400 over either the 450 or Raptor, as a trail machine. But, when the trail gets real slow and technical, the good old 400EX can be lugged down.........I just put it in first gear and idle on through.

I actually have a trx400ex and love it, just 'cause mostly i like talking about bikes that i was wondering what everybody else said. If you have a track 450r and a 400ex, you think i should stick with my 400 and maybe add a couple of parts?

LOL. No.

You DO NOT have to go fast thru trails, do you? I'm a HUGE trail rider. The 700 lugs down low very, very good. Never once have I stalled it going slow. LOTS of torque, too.
