Default YXF450 Header getting red hot....

I just bought a 07YFZ 450SE and noticed the header was glowing red! The motor has about 5 minutes under it's belt. Any help before I call the dealership?

Yepper it is new? Don't mess with it!
Roll it back on the truck and get it back to the dealer.
before it goes dead on you. Set up may had a flaw.

When you go to pick it up next time, test ride it there at the dealers before taking it home!

No there is nothing wrong with it. It will glow red if you let it sit there and idle. The Raptor 700 also does this.

YFZ's, like most quads now days, comes from the factory on the lean side. Maybe someone with a YFZ will chime in and suggest the jetting size to step up to.

If this is something I ever hear of when it comes to internal combustion machines.
Brand new and it is a red hot cooking hamburger type red hot.
I would say to the dealer this Dog Dont Hunt fix it!

Any engine should be able to idle more than 5 minutes with out posing harm to itself.
If this is how the new machines are being put out on the market I would say someone is getting the short end of the stick.

Yeah from what I gather this is normal ops for the YFZ. Ran it today (aloy harder than yesterday) and it's screaming.

Who said anything about doing harm. Many high performance quads do this stock.

In your 83 post in one month are stating facts to help people or just your opinions?

My opinion from experience but if it does not apply to this special edition of engines well I am sorry.
But just think of it if the exaust is steel and it is red hot, the valve can not be much cooler since it sees the heat first.
Just to add I wonder what the top of the aluminum pistion looks like, that has a lower melting point.
If it is like you say that this type of stuff is normal well so be it.
But On my machines it would be considered a disaster waiting to happen.

So you can go with fact I will go with my common instinct.

No fight no fowl no harm I will leave it alone...Thanks

May I ask you all a question please...
What other brands and models have this same characteristic.
This inf will help me decide in the future on what to look for...

Maybe a slight glow at night would be acceptable, but if it is glowing red and very noticeable during the daytime I would be concerned it is on the lean side.Just my personal experience.

yo man none of these jokers know what they're talking about, i have a 06 yfz 450, listen if your dealer knew anything he would have told you not to let it sit and idle for more than 10 mins, they're designed to be moving and consume alot of airflow because they are racing quads they aren't made to sit still for a hour :-P. Anyways they ALL glow red if even if you're riding them, they all do this, don't be concerned with it. I don't know about the whole lean thing, but i had it stock, road it for about 60 hours, then i got a curtis sparks exhaust on it, the pipe still glows red. If you want, call your dealer and talk to a mechanic he'll tell you they all glow red. One more thing, what's this "experience" you have tommyA300, it's not just special editions, ALL yfz's do this.

Imsam77 please I am just finding out about this type of machine.

BTW my experience is far before your time well into the mid 60s, to early 70's covering Hondas Harleys Skidoo small engine repair in general. I think it was the time that ATVs were still 3 wheelers too. Designs have changed but the basic function remains the same.

No need to get so defensive on the subject matter son!
I am just inquiring on this issue because it does seem odd that red hot headers are ok.
It is not a common thing of normal engine designs, for the family type slow riding and enjoys the time, unless you are riding in competition...and the need for speed is a wrench or that butterfly in one's belly....
I realized from other threads that this 450 is only for racing and top end riding competition.
It is only use is for being on the move and there is no time to sit and chat with anyone when this machine is powered up.

Thank you all for the enlightenment on this type of mechanism.
Like I mentioned in other realms of this forum I understand what type of machine this is and it is not a point to bad mouth anyone on there opinions.
I was not trying to start a war just a need to know. I rather have a learning experience on the latest items without spending 8000 dollars and be disapointed in the long run.
Please cool down, I APPOLOGIZE TO EVERYONE ON ANY COMMENTS THAT WERE DEROGATORY TO their character?
Something to think about son. Maintain Peace it is only a machine!
