Here in Commiefornia, they do factory smog checks to determine what can be sold a clean air vehicle, most all jap 4-stoke quads pass. On the states web site they show the result as well as Horsepower, it's an eye opener. Some sportquads have far more power than utility quads of the same size and manufacture.

I have always liked that site also. Here are some of the hp numbers they list for the engines on some of the different manufacture engines. These are engine hp numbers not rear wheel numbers, which will be lower.
Polaris Outlaw 525 50 hp
Polaris Outlaw 500 48 hp
Polaris Predator 500 48 hp
Yamaha Raptor 700R 47 hp
Yamaha Raptor 660 40.9 hp
Yamaha YFZ450 38.6 hp
DS X 650 48.3 hp
Honda TRX 450ER 42.6 hp
Suzuki LT-450R 40.2 hp

I think a ds650 would have a BIT more horsepower than the ktm525 motor.
I think the HP on the 525 is also very low, ktm claims that their SX450 has 59hp, and that the 525 has 62HP (that's not at the wheel though)
But the 525 also has a whack of low end torque-- 31.3ft-lbs at 3250RPM

Horsepower by itself means nothing! The RPM where it makes that power is just as important. And what does the torque cureve look like???? Weight to power ratio is crutial too. For instance, an Outlander weights 250 pounds more than any of the 450's.....that alone makes all the difference!

The HP is useless if it falls in the wrong place in the RPM scale, and without the proper torque curve to sustain that HP it matters not what the total number is .....

James Dean jetting has many graphs, and none are the numbers you are puttting up. The Outlaw was not de-tuned like other bike to quad motors were.

well then KTM are @$$holes for claiming to have 62hp on a 525, unless it was someone on this forum, if it was someone on this forum, come out of hiding so we can pull burnouts all over your face
