Dealers? What to do with New Yamaha 700r in Crate!
#1
OK my Yamaha 700R is now at home where I work in Angola. Basically there are no dealers with any mechanical knowledge I trust here so what's the best method of getting started and the checks that should be performed. If the battery is dry I know I need to add the acid, leave for at least 5 hours and then charge slowly for another 5 hours , stuff like that. Will check fluids, but is the oil from Yamaha ok or change out asap.

Yamalube isn't bad oil, if you can get it where you are. No synthetic until after break-in! Yamalube has a petroleum base, but with synthetic additives. Not sure it is suitable for break-in (????). The factory might put in some kind of special pure petroleum break-in oil (????).
I always do an oil and oil filter change after 1 hour of break-in riding, to get the metal shavings out of the engine first thing.
Read this before you even start the engine for the first time: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
I break-in doing hillclimbs. Ride it hard and fast up a steep hill, then come down it under heavy compression braking. I do that three times, then park it and cool it off completely. Next day I do the same thing. I do that for several days, then just ride it normally, but constantly varying the speed.

Very controversial !, I intend to run in using a similar way on the beach, as I am nearly 40 I have been around bikes and cars since I was 8 or 9, the more responsive bikes have always been the ones that have been "Thrashed from the start"
Anyway just pumped the tyres up, and fit the wheels , skid plates, handle bars, ignition heel guards, front shocks, ...... the list goes on and on I recon I have about 5 hours work to put it together.

On the beach, I would do hard acceleration followed by hard deceleration, with lots of compression braking (downshift!). The engine braking compression will help wear in the rings as well.

that sucks you only get to go riding 3 times a week, i like where i live- lots/enough trails to go on, and 2 huge tracks 20 minutes drive away, could go riding every day all day almost
i changed the oil for the break in after 8 or 10 hours
