UM Sport Quad... MTX-450R
#1
I got a chance to have a look at this unit imported by UM.
Here are my random observations...
The engine... this puppy pumps out 51hp!
It appears to me to be an LTR450 engine pretty much.
The differences I saw are...
The UM has the easy access side-mount oil filter and does not have the EFI.
It also seems to have a bit more open stock exhaust.
Overall, to me it's very much like they have put a non-EFI LTR450 engine in a very Z400-like chassis. Very similar. The only oddity I could find is that the side view of the machine reveals that it has a much straighter backbone/seat line sort of more like a dirt bike. But strangly, it doesn't produce a 'tippy' feel when you are on it.
Seeing as the dealer is also a Suzuki dealer, I cornered him on some direct questions that I think he realized were best answered honestly. He admitted the similarities, and admitted that the 'actual manufacturer' of the quad also builds a lot of stuff for the Suzuki and other Suzuki-based quads.
He says the quad has more low end grunt, but seems to be rev limited a little on top and falls short of reving out as high as the LTR450. That was about all of the comparison I got out of him worth posting.... other than the fact this machine has an incredible 3 year warranty they stand behind in comparison to 6 months on the others.
Overall, I think it is a possibility this quad might be a very TRAIL worthy high performance 450cc.
The only thing I wish I had paid more attention to is the suspension package.
That might be an area where they skimped... I don't know.
Anyways, let me know if you have any questions.
I'll try to answer if I know the answer... LOL...

The suspension is fully adjustable front and rear.
there are rumors of the engine being the LTR450 and also that it is a Fuji.
I posted pics and thoughts in another thread on here. search MTX 450 i think it is under.

Yeah, I just wish I had paid more attention to the suspension.
Adjustable or not, I wonder if it is quality and if it performs.
The engine I am pretty certain is the SAME, other than the lack of EFI and the easy access oil filter.
Oh, and it is piped different.
Anyways, it's certainly a quad by Hyosung, which I hear does stuff for Suzuki, so I am not at all surprised.
I like the bike and the warranty is great.
I'm thinking maybe finally there is now a "trail" 450 in this machine.
From some of the feedback I got, it sounds possible...
I'll have to dig up your thread and have a look... if I haven't already...
Anyways, I really really dig your DVX. It's awesome in the pics.
I have a couple of DVX question threads up in the artic cat area.
Search those up sometime... I'd like your input....
Speaking of pics, check mine out....
I have a pic in there of the GOES brand name version of this same Hyosung quad.
It's the slickest version of it I think....
