True that would be the way to do it, the trail version, and the one for crazed throttle jockies. A simple strait axle chromoly framed, hell I'd be extatic with a carburated kick start version.
They so should have had an XR600 based quad when they had the chance. That would have been a master peice of open desert beauty.</end quote></div>
I've looked everywhere for that motor to maybe do a trx600ex conversion quad but can't find a single one.

where are you out of?
There are a bunch of 'em down here in southern california. The thing I was thinking, the easiest way to do it would be to use an XR650L seeing as it is a corked up electric start version. The bikes are cheap too.
Say a Dirt wheels article where they used a 300EX frame(400 wasn't around yet) and put the 600 motor in. They had to remove the rear plastics so they could kick it. That is why I thought about the 650L model. I had the 600 (favorite desert bike ever) and getting them to fire up in the morning is a real chore especially with a high compression piston, so electric start would be awesome.

Indiana,I was thinkin xr600 because it would be unique that not many people have done if any. When an Xr series bike apears for sale around here it's either a 650 or a 250 which i've got some ride time on and like. The 400's and 600's though are rare comodities around here.

well, i will say this the 600 really is not that impressive until you get the 42mm flatslide on there, and an exhaust. Having the stroker kit and the high compression piston (still ran pump gas) with the cam really made it a monster.
I think it would make a stunning quad engine.
Here is a picture of the old beast, I was 15 and did not deserve that bike or knew even what it could do. Thing was street legal too.
