400ex or Z400 for dune riding?

Hey, I am in the market for my first ATV. I have ridden my buddies Trx450 quite a few times. I am in the market for either a 2008 400ex or a 2008 suzuki Z400 since that is all i can afford. I live in oregon and the majority of riding on this ATV will be at the Dunes on the coast. I just want everyones opinion on whats better for Dune riding . We have trails but I want whichever does better with the tree shots. Im not too concerned with top speed. Just torgue and "get up and go" to get out of those tree shots. thanks.

The EX loves to lug down, so it makes a great tight trail quad. The Z on the other hand likes to rev (but not as much as a 450), so it makes a better open trails/dune quad. Actually, Oregon is more sand trail riding than it is wide open dunes like Glamis for example, so the Z is a good choice for that venue.
Even though these are both 400's, the Z has way more motor. Lots of hop-up potential there, with just some simple mods! Word is, it will get a makeover in the near future (???).

Thanks that input helped a lot. I am going to go ahead and do the Z400. Limited edition model probably. I dont mind an extra 100 and im not a yellow or a white fan. You think I can talk a dealer into throwing paddles, a helmet, and boots in with the deal with my good credit. Im thinking about putting 1200 down on it. I would also like to maybe talk down the price. let know what you guys think!
PS: Is the Z a reliable ATV? I dont plan on jumping and track racing.

I had an 05 z400 and modded it out. It was a great ride, fast and very reliable. I ride the Oregon dunes as well and it was great for that, also rode the track and jumped it. Never had a problem. Suzuki's 400 motor is solid with a lot of power. Also has good suspension, but certainly not the best.
As for throwing in all those items, if you find a dealer willing to do that tell me who it is so I can buy all my future atv's from them! LOL! You will find that dealers are reluctant to take more than a couple hundred bucks off the price as I don't think there is much of a mark up on them. However, they can and likely will deal on the parts as they have more room to move.
Good luck and enjoy your z!

Thanks and maybe we will meet up someday lol. I live in the Portland area and a mentor of mine has good connections with the action motors sports that is up here. Instead of lowering the price i may just ask for paddles. My mentor says that there is absolutely no reason why your paddles shouldnt get thrown in the deal. Im going to try to get boots out of them too, because it does make all the difference in the world!
My buddies and I will be riding sand lake a lot for weekends during the summer. And we have big trips planned for everyones families to Hauser, Horse falls, and maybe glamis.
