The 400EX is a 2002. So that year doesn't have reverse? Either way, I am more interested in the Z400. I was just curious about the 400EX.

 

EX got reverse in 05, as I recall.

It also appears that the Z400 is liquid cooled but the 400EX is not. Is that correct?
I really don't think I want a 400EX anyway. That was just another similar quad that saw at a similar price locally.

 

You are correct, they are air cooled.

 

The 400ex does have a few advantages over the Z one being the EX is probobly one of the best longevity bikes built (Bullitproof) and since it is air cooled it does have less maintenance than the Z. If ist strickly a play bike I would go EX but if you like speed and a bike you could even take to a track the Z is the way to go!

 

I will have to say the kfx 700 is more versatile. The 700 does it all and is still rider friendly. It sucks that it is far away because a V for $2000 is good, I doubt it is still there.

 

As of last night the KFX700 was still there. Yes, it really sucks that it is so far away. I would really like to ride both and make a decision after but I don't think it will be able to happen that way.

 

The KFX700 is sold so I guess I don't have to think about that one anymore. I am still not fully sold on buying the Z400. I know that I would have fun on it and I am sure it is a nice quad but I am not sure how willing my girlfriend will be to ride with a clutch.

Another possible opportunity is a 2002 Polaris Scrambler 500 H.O. 4x2 for $1400 that is running rough & backfiring when it gets more than 1/4 throttle. It probably is probably just a carb or intake issue. Seems like those might be OK as well for an automatic but they just seem SOOOO heavy. I think they are around 100 lbs heavier than my DS650.

 

Nooooooo!!! just get the Z and be done. Stay away from garbage!
