I've heard of a couple of articles where a turbo company is working with the likes of Polaris & Artic Cat. They are in the stages of trying to turbocharge 4 stroke motors for snowmobiles. Maybe in the future a turbo charged Scrambler 500???

Advances in the atv industry are a huge plus for the sport. The only draw backs are price and reliability. Fuel injection is the way to go. But it will be very expensive and with the abuse that a quad goes through, I don't know about the reliability factor. But with the simple "change of a chip" you could change your entire power band. Add a pipe, no problem.
"Turbo Chargers" would be a great power increase for those of us that like to go fast. But heat generated by a turbo would require the engine to be liquid cooled. And I'm not a big fan of that. I like to keep the weight of the quad down as much as possible. But you get some, and lose some. You can't have everything.
Also, dual overhead cams. Another power upgrade that is light weight and very effective. The Kawasaki Mojave has this, but is only a 250cc. Could you imagine the response if it was a 400cc?
Future sport rides will have to have an aluminum frame, aluminum engine block, aluminum rims.... as much aluminum as possible to bring down the weight. Maybe with turbo chargers and fuel injection. The power hungray will finally be satisfied. ahhh..........I doubt it.

cstark,
I agree, I know I will be evolving with the sport, but for know Im still on the 2 stroke! For sure fuel injection is going to be expensive, but with time it will come down. Someone mentioned turbos, what about a supercharger? They have them on motorcycles, I wonder if they would create more drag on the motor than power out the pipe.
Talk to you guys and gals later.

there are engines made for foriegn markets we never see here in the US. one example of this is a turbo charged 250cc 4cyl honda, it has a redline of over 18,000 rpm, and weighs 50 lbs less then the cbr600-f2. it sounds like a formula-1 car, However it does have a big drawback almost no bottom end, but it screams when you hit the powerband. Engines such as these are available here in the US, however only on a limited basis, and only by means of grey market importers. ever ask a dealer if they can import Engines through thier suppliers? need i mention cost?...
but before i post....
First, let me pass this by my Enlish professor, then my political correctness comitee, i'll get back to ya in 6 months. um... wait.... this is a quick respose forum. roost you need to loosen the sphinter retention springs a little. i think any body that has the guts to get on a machine that has the potential of maiming or killing them deserves respect, especially the disabled. those that use them solely to wrecklessly cause problems deserve what will eventually come to them.

Dual Sporter,
Here is your latest response: "I think any body that has the guts to get on a machine that has the potential of maiming or killing them deserves respect, especially the disabled. those that use them solely to wrecklessly cause problems deserve what will eventually come to them" Are you saying that you know of some disabled person that buys a quad for the specific reason to take able bodied people out?
And an earlier statement from you "i've seen 'em on skis and snowboards, but many times assisted, and never on unpatrolled slopes.
maybe we need to start a program to get disabled persons riding.... put them in remote controled pilots? or on scramblers? ...then again maybe not... they don't need any more injuries". This statement in my opinion is meant for one person on this forum, one who rides a Polaris and is disabled. So you are actually making fun of another forum user and insulting all disabled persons. This is not about being politically correct, its about RESPECT for your fellow man. We are all involved in the ATV hopbby and we fight about whos quad is best and thats all fine, but when you start talking the kind of trash that you and hakmaster have, well you fo beyond fun and it becomes hurtful.
Like you said, those that cause problems will get theirs, and your may be on the way someday.

as i said, you really need to loosen off them **** retention springs, you just want to prolong this B.S. SO, I DO HAVE A REPLY....
you look at them they're offended, you don't they're offended, you talk to them , about them, around them, don't include them in any way, offer help, or even think about suggesting other ways of doing things, they're offended... to be honest it appears that its a no win situation. i assume from your replies they want no help at all, and that the public should let them do EVERYTHING by themselves, and the rest of the world can keep ideas and suggestions to themselves, even ones that might help. this applies to all 'minorities' or any politically 'special' group.

I APPOLOGIZE TO THOSE I REALLY DID OFFEND.
i'm sure the sport 400 is a lot of fun for those who like it and can be more than a handfull at times.
lets get back to the technical stuff. at least that won't offend you and your posse.

as a matter of fact, i do ride w/ a disabled person, he has spine injuries from an on-the-job accident. he takes subsciption MORPHINE to kill the pain. rides a lt250r, and is one of the most dangerous guys i ride with. we allswear that one day he's ether going to take himself out or someone else maybe both. cops hate it when they see the a handicapped designated truck w/ a quad in the back. even better, his doctor actually approves of it as therapy.

This is for big devil who was asking what the heck is a gas gas? Gas Gas is (I think) a Spanish company that started making motocross bikes a few years ago. They recently announced that they intend on making a 2 stroke race quad. I have seen some of their motocross bikes in person and let me tell you that they are super high quality. Those bikes came standard with all the best components. There was no need to buy the bike then start buying aftermarket parts. They have a web site at www.ggna.com click on products and you'll see a small picture of the quad. I'm not sure when it will be released, but it is a new 2 stroke soon to be available! Our purchasing dollars speak more than our words to the major manufacturers. Quads are out selling motorcycles 4 to 1, yet motocross bikes still have 2 stroke engines. Apparently there are a few manufacturers that are willing to give us what we want. Thanks Gas Gas!
