450R in the woods/muck
hello all.
I have the opportunity to get a Honda 450r.
I want to do trail riding and some muddy stuff.
I know its a race bike and only 2WD, but does this thing have what it takes to do some real off roading?
Im only asking because i currently use another 2WD bike [85 Fourtrax 250] and it is quite competent in the woods.
anything i should look for when buying an 06 honda 450r?
thanks

i have a 400ex thats as fast as a 450r and all i do is trail riding and mudding,no tracks. ive never gotten stuck and i go everywhere 4 wheel drives go,might have to hit it differently and a little quicker, but they are awesome trail machines. throw alot of mud if its soupy, but i love it. %uck a 4 wheel drive, they have more problems and and weigh a bunch, you will not be dissapointed or stuck if you get a 450.

I have a 450er and all i do is trail ride. It is meant to be ridden hard so keep the gear low when trail riding. I encounter a loose clutch when I run a long slow trail every once in a while. I take it to Quadfest in Western PA every year. It will go through alot but I would not treat it as a four wheeler for sure. Always turn gas off and let it die out at end of day. Many issues with flooding and gunking carb up so this helps.

Depending on where you ride ground clearance can be an issue. You have no where near what a utility would have at just over 4". Where I ride some of the ruts can be over a foot deep and no way around them and shear sided banks. Thanks 4x4 people:-/ If you do technical trail riding I suggest you drop a tooth on the front sprocket so you won't have to slip the clutch as much.

on my honda,i went up a tooth on front sprocket and down two on back. i do alot of technical trail riding and ruts here are 3 and 4 feet deep, theres usually ways around it or i put one wheel on rut and other on the wall.ive never owned a 4X4 and never will,i go every where the 4 wheel drives go,sometimes just have to jump some stuff or really have my ***** strapped on tight lol....
