and to "duster" i have only been riding my little trx250ex---i modded it out to the max-and it is so slow! and i have a 1980 CR80(the first cr80) and im faster than CR125s and what a power band that thing has - im very used to power and i have rode my neighbor's YFZ450 that has a few mods on it(that thing was fast!) the only reason i have my small 250ex is because my dad picked it out for me! i wanted a raptor350 (i was 14) and i wasnt there when he picked a quad and ive been stuck with that small thing since then!-i tryed to make it faster by modding it and its still slow! i want a quad that i will never want to trade in because its to small or slow for me and i think a KFX450R will never be small to me or slow to me(a 400 will be slow to me in a year)

The KTM 525 engine it has is very good, and so is the suspension.

Performance comes with a price, and one issue that newb 450 buyers are usually ignorant of is maintenance! The 450 class engines have a very different design from the older school technology found in other classes of engines. They use little slipper pistons with fewer rings, that are designed to tolerate a lot of compression blow-by. This means that the oil gets rapidly contaminated with fuel, so THESE ENGINES NEED TO HAVE THEIR OIL CHANGED FREQUENTLY!!!
Nice read on the subject: http://www.belray.com/scripts/future...6-e27066d0d02a
The 450 should also get more frequent valve adjustments and will simply wear out quicker than the old school designs. This isn't your dad's XR400!

yes i understand that completely, i know they are high maintenance but if i change the oil every 10 - 15 hrs i should be good right? i will be buying new---probally a leftover cause i can get a leftover 2008 KXF450R for 4K - 4.5K instead of 7.5K (and anyways i like the green plastics with the black on the edges lol)

well good luck, i think you will prob be satisfied with everything in the 450 class, but if you want the fastest stock bike out there, you could go with the renegade 800 but they are over 10 gs, so i dont think your dad will go for that, and if you could get a leftover kfx for 4 gs i wouldnt wait

thanks i think the KFX will be good(i dont like automatic quads) i think the 800 is auto right?---anyways do u think u could tell me the maintenance things like every certain amount of hours of riding i should change the oil and stuff like that?

At this price point, it's a greater value than even the KTM.
That was my thought process anyways... and I think I've came out on top with that.
And I believe this engine will prove to be less of a maintenance hound.
So far it seems to be in both KFX and KX form...
Not as much adjustments... and not as many failures...
On the oil changes though... it seems pretty easy to me...
The Kawi has a sight glass in the case... so you can see the oil level and the condition of the oil...
And it has such a work of art feel in the tranny on fresh oil, that I swear I can "feel" when the oil starts to degrade a little... I change the oil when the trans starts feeling normal... and it goes back to feeling like a work of art again.
Other owners tell me they can't tell that, but I can on mine.
So far, this has equated to VERY frequent oil changes... so much so that I haven't been installing a new filter every time... and I have not settled on an oil type/brand yet....... but if I don't find an oil that stands up a little longer, I'm just going to return to the $10 gallons of Rotella 15w40. I can't see the benefit of other stuff at these drain intervals.
