How much experience does he have? Does he what a manual clutch? If he has riden ATVs quite a bit and likes manual clutchs the Blaster would be a good choice. Remember the Blaster does not have a reverse but it is preaty light weight. If he has only riden a couple of times, doesn't like manual clutch, then a full automatic like the Breeze, or an auto-clutch manual shift like a 250EX would be a good choice. I was riding a Breeze before the age of 10 so that might be too small or under powered. Just some thoughts. Good Luck.

A Blaster was my first quad. I can't remember exactly, but I wasn't much over 12 when I got it. Had no problem with the manual clutch, or controling the power.
If you feel that the manual clutch may be a problem, then the 250ex sounds like a great starter bike. Honda's have a good reputation as well (not to say that the Blaster isn't as reliable).
For a fully automatic quad, I would recommend the Polaris Trail Boss 325. It's pretty cheap too.
Whatever he get's he will enjoy, but I agree that a 90cc quad will be outgrown too quickly.

It really depends on the kids size and weight, rather than age. Judgment and temperment are a big factor too. My 11 yr. old rides a Honda 300EX, but she is big for 11. Try to get a bike he can GROW INTO (an intermediate machine like a Honda 250EX or Blaster), if possible, but only if he is a kid who has good judgement. On the other hand, if he's small, timid, or reckless, you'll have to stick with a smaller machine (Honda 90 or Suzuki LT-80). Remember, kids (especially beginners who are advancing fast) can outgrow an entry level bike really fast!!! Agressive boys will become bored in no time at all.
