Sport Tires
#1
Does anybody on this forum have the time to express their opinions on Maxxis Razor (all) and ITP Holeshot(all) tires? I need new tires for my 400EX and you need to know that I ride all types of terrain and aggressively. I want to know how the tires bite. If they slide properly. How durable they are.
Thanks.

I have used Holeshots exclusively in the past. I have had regular Holeshots, Holeshot XC's, and now Holeshot MX's. Regarding the ability to slide, and traction issues, I really think they are a good overall do just about anything pretty well tire...fronts and backs. I had Holeshot XC's on my '86 250R, and I couldn't be happier with the way they lasted! I had them for about 3-4 years, and they saw a fair amount of hard-pack and some blacktop use, and these things just did not wear! Granted, I only rode the bike 2 or 3 times a month, but I certainly can't claim I've seen another tire wear like that! When I sold the quad with those tires on, after 3 years of use, they still had over 50% tread on them. Never had a problem with punctures either. I would recommend ITP Holeshots to anyone. Money well spent. I'm planning to purchase a full set of the XCT's in the next few months myself.

Is Summerland in the dry interior, or the wet coast?? (I'm originally form Chilliwack, but can't remember where Summerland is-it's been a while.) Anyway, I ride desert and mountains, so keep that in mind (I can't comment with any authority on mud). For a trail bike I like Holeshot XC's, and for desert cross-country Holeshot XCT's. The Holeshots seem to do everything pretty well, and are indestructable!! Standard Holeshots have a well deserved reputation for wearing quickly, but the XC and XCT are made of harder rubber and wear well.

I replaced the junky stock tires on my 2 Scramblers to IPT Holeshot XCTs mounted on 190 Douglas aluminum rims. One of the best upgrades you can make. They are excellent tires. We spent a week in Coal Creek, Tn. The trails are pretty rocky, a lot of creek bed riding. We rode em hard, no flats or dings in the rims. Highly recommend.

I had the OEM Ohtsu's, Holshots, and Turf Tamers on my 400EX. The Ohtsu's were the best sliders, but puntured easily. The Holeshots were great for MX and were very tough, but didn't slide endlessly, like the Ohtsu's, and sucked in muddy conditions. The Turf Tamers were great for hard pack and were very light, but were also terrible in mud. I've got Pure Sport Bandits on the Bomb, but they are very heavy and will rob power from the EX.

Sunny Okanagan valley. Travel roughly 3 hours East of Chilliwack on the Hope-Princeton (highway 3)or 1 1/2 hours north of the US border from Oriville Washington, along highway 97. How long have you been living south of our border? You know, your American dollar goes along way up here now!
