Between the basic motor mods and the quad, I have much less into it than either a stock DS or Raptor. It's when you get into the suspension and tire mods is where it starts to cost $$$$. As to how fast it will go, who knows. I've never had a long enough or flat straight away to test it with my GPS (the GPS's fault, not mine or the quads). It will flat out haul, though. As far as how quick it is, well my Sport has easily beaten modified Raptors and Banshees. I seriously doubt that a DS 650 would be much more than a speed bump. Besides being lighter (you'd be surprised how light you can make a Polaris with the removal or replacement of several items), having more horsepower (50 or so at the rear wheels) and an automatic transmission that shifts faster than any human can, I doubt if your DS650 would even be in the same league as my Sport. It's not bragging, it's just simple facts.

That's not to say that the DS 650 is a bad machine, far from it. I think that Bombardier has a lot of guts making a quad like that. In fact, if I ever considered a replacement for my Sport the DS would be near the top of my list, right after the Polaris Predator. I especially like the Baja edition and was pleased to no end that they renewed it for 2003. My only complaint is that it's too heavy (sounds funny coming from a &quot;Polaris guy&quot; huh?). 475 lbs is way too much weight for a sport/high performance machine. >>





I'm just curious as to what you consider a modded Raptor to be? .

 

i had my 99 scambler 4x4 out on the track this past winter. It was a indoor motocross track so it was very tight. they give us one night a week to rip it up on our quads so lots of different machines show up. believe it or not but my scrambler went head to head with the raptors on the jumps, curves and (oh yes) the whoops the wonderful whoops. In the end over two laps i beat him. He was pissed to see a clunker polaris 4x4 pass him with out being able to do anything but take it. not to say that he wouldn't kill me on a open trail, but on a tight 1st @ 2nd gear track the automatic clutch was the bomb. now i also got passed by all the 400ex's and i couldn't do a thing about it. but they got beat by the trx250r's so really it all depends on what you want out of your machine. sporty ride or true race machine. i will let you decide where your machine fits into.

 

Back to the Predator....

I heard the predator is going for about 5700 not 6200

 

$6300 is MSRP for the Limited edition Troy Lee. The silver ones will be closer to $5999.

Well i think some of you fellas should do a little more homework. Sure, Polaris is an American company, with quads made in the US.

HOWEVER, the powerplant for the new Predator is made by Fuji,... A japanese company, manufactured in japan. In polaris' defense, the engines are made to polaris specs.
