Are shock covers worth $50? Do they provide any value?

They certainly provide value if you ever happen to follow a rider throwing roost at you, especially small stones or even mud or heavy dust. If the shock compression rod is nicked or scratched it will eventually damage the shock seal causing the shock to leak. On OEM shocks it means buying a new one since most OEM front shocks are not rebuldable.

Check on Ebay there's tons of them (under shock covers). I've seen them for $25.00-$35.00 set. I won a set from Intenseimaging@aol.com for $28.00 and their fine.

i think that they will help keep the shocks free from dirt and they add some apperance value to the bike as well

I bought a set on eBay from a guy called "bigcoohuna" The covers are great! Instead
of taking time to clean the shocks/springs, I just take off the covers and throw them in
the laundry!

They are great until you get them full of sand or mud or water or something. Then they just hold the crud in there. I recommend them, but remove and clean them often, especially after a nasty ride!
