I am trying to decide whether to buy a 400ex or a warrior. What is the price difference for used and can I use that extra money for mods. What are they like on the track, in the woods, hills, dunes, etc. I am 6' and 220lbs. so I need plenty of power and room.

A used 400EX is your best bet and for some reason there isn't a price difference between them around here. A friend of mine just bought a 2001 400EX for 2500.00 with a pipe and jetting already on it.

Don't get a Warrior under any circumstances!! I know, I rode one for years. It is just an old tired design. Yamaha needs to replace it. The EX is a way better bike, and you can live without reverse.

They are both decent quads but I think you will get alot more bang for your buck by going with the 400ex. If you can find one that is already modded you will have a great quad.

Bing and the ex was perfect in the 90s no just joking its also a great quad even if it was made in 96 heck look whos talking i got a quad orignally made in like 89
but if you can find a good used EX that would be better then a Warrior
if you go new, the Z has a little more power, reverse, liquid cooling and more mod potential
you might also want to look into a raptor its bigger and work better in the dunes and also works well in the trails and pretty much everywhere
and if your doing only dunes get a banshee
but for mainly woods or track go with the EX or Z
good luck later

GET THE EX Seems to be the underlying message here.
True Story. I drove 217 mile to pick up a brand new Yamaha warrior and the damn dealer sold it on me. He only had the 400ex and I felt like I was being suckered into buying it. I bought this damn 400 ex and the first quad I saw at the dunes was a warrior. I asked him if he liked it and asked him how it performed....to make a long story short I spanked his him like a redheaded stepchild and have bveen loving my Honda ever since... REMEMBER IF ON A YAMAHA AND YOU LOOK BACK FOR A SECOND GLANCE THAT"S WHERE YOU"LL FINISH!
