That particular incident had happened in the spillway. I ride there or I just go over the levee by my house and ride in the sand pits. I am trying to get with my friends to go to Kevin Windam's place in MS. I've been real busy, so by the house I just pull out the back yard and up the levee I go.

From my personal experiences. I have a bone stock Z. I weigh 235 lbs. I have raced on flat dirt roads 4 different 400exs, 2 stock, 2 modified {piped, jetted and filtered}. We are all adults over 30 years old {me 45}. I easily beat all 4 Hondas. We raced just long enough to see clear results at least 250 ft well into 5th gear. All the Hondas had lighter riders by 50 lbs at least except 1, he was the same as me. Against both the stockers I easily pulled away in every gear from the start. Against the modified Hondas the Z pulled away from 3rd gear on. Nearly even off the line. Top speed, Z-400 easily. In the woods the difference is not noticable, that is all rider. Haven't gone up against a Raptor but I'm sure the Z would take it off the line and the Raptor would blow by in the upper gears. Forget a well tuned 250R or Banshee, they would blast any stock 4 stroker. The 400ex is a fine quad but I prefer my Z-400 and am glad I bought it.

they are both great but the z 400 is jut a lil better in the power

You ever been to Windams. I've been once and thought it was a pretty cool place to ride.

here's my 2 cents, with 2 stock quads that closely built, I would bet that the rider makes the difference,
I have raced a bone stock banshee against built banshee's and have both won and lost, in most racing
unless there are 400+ yard straight aways its 98% rider 2% bike

They aren't really that close. And in the race those guys are quoting from the mag they had to launch the Z in 2nd gear and the EX in 1st to try and equal things up a little because the Z had massive wheelspin problems and couldn't take off on the loose surface. I've smoked several Banshees on loose gravel roads with my Z because of that same problem. If they would have been on pavement it would have been a different story. And that crap about there only being 1.5 difference is bogus. Your taking the highest rating listed for an EX and comparing it to the lowest rating listed for the Z400. Dyno's are pretty much useless except for comparing changes anyway but the average Z dynos at 31.5 to 32 when fully broken in while the average stock ex is around 27.5. Which is pretty much the same difference between a stock Raptor and a stock Z400. The 400EX while a great quad is now old school. Honda will in turn release a new machine in a year or so and they will be new school again. The last GNCC race finally had a few of the better riders on Z400s including Brad Page. He finished 5th in PRO. Not pro production but pro with the 20,000.00 aftermarket chassis 250Rs and in pro production a rider on a Z took the holeshot and held the lead for 75% of the race until he had an accident. I did see a few Dales in some of the shots but none of them finished this well.

yea im with him. my friends have a Z and a ex and the ex has a pipe jets air box mods and barelly keeps up with the z. Yet i think that my freind Z is a peice of s#@$. it is maybe months old and needs lots of work(its a very pricey quad to crash)every thing seems to bend like crazy on it. I crashed my banshee like 20 times alreay and no serios damage. The worst was when i hit a tiny 2 inch rock that slit my stock front tire in the poring rain doing like 45 down a stretch in the woods. it started to roll over so i jumped off and it went streight into a tree. the only thing i broke was a light and a slit tire. The z was driven into a tree a like 10 mph and pointed 1 tire sideways due to a broken tie rod. Ok bla bla bla, i can tell u more retarted stories like that, much worse but longer. does any 1 else have problems like this on there Z-400. I know that it could be the way you hit it and stuff but do u think the Z are built week?

maybe its just bad luck for him

actually dude its not bogus i have never ever seen a z400 top 30hp stock chad duvall rides a 400ex in pro prudution and they take off 30sec behind pro and he gets around the pro guys including all the zs and, on the chassis thing the ex and r have the best stock chassis ever made says everbody and yes bothg quads range within a 1-2 hp differance ask Allen Knowls from CT racing he will tell u stait up that they took a basically put a drz dirtbike motor in it tokk the suspension off wqhat a 400ex had moded it a little and boom suzuki z400...and your right yes the 400ex has to be started in first cause the 400exs power band doesnt hit as hard as the zs but its not the bike its the rider ...do u wanna race i can bet u all the monet in the world u will not beat my EX.
