Id go with the Z 400 if i was you if your mostly trail riding.If you dune a lot id go with the larger displacement 660 Raptor.Id hate to be in the position of buying a new Sport Quad righ now with so many choices and also Hondas new quad IMO is going to kick azz. late,zubbeyboy

Greatest advice you can take is RIDE RIDE RIDE. I'm sure that not every dealer has a place to go out and ride a few circles, but hey, you're a prospective buyer, so i'm sure you can find one even if you're not going to buy the machine from them "they don't know that". If you're always dyin to be faster, I'd go w/ the Raptor, cause the Z will run out of potential in time. I've ridden a Z once, piped and jetted, and it was quick, but not near the torque as you'll see from the raptor. I'll get on my soap box and say that you need to go in between and ride the predator before you buy. yea, its heavier, but its wider and has some funky steering that you'll really like. I was non polaris until I rode it anyway. I'm about your size, that should be the same. RIDE RIDE RIDE RIDE, its the only way you'll get a feel for them.

 

C'mon guys, I own a DS650, but I've ridden with a ton of raptors and Z400's and I don't see how anybody could think a Z400 could even come close to a raptor in the trails. There really is no comparison unless you care nothing about speed and power....if those are your choices definitely go with a raptor,...that is unless of course you want the ultimate in sport atv's, the DS650 BAJA...[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

ive decided.im gonna buy a used 02 raptor. thanks for all your input.i guess the 400's have nothing on the raptor.

oh and i dont really like DS. its just TOO massive.



one more question. does buying an 02 mean that it wont have the type of tranny problems the 01's had?
any advice for buying a used raptor? i plan to pay no more than $5000.
what do you think?

 

I haze a Z and my friend just bought a used 2001 raptor. Like my z better. First time we raced he killed me now got dmc pipe airfilter stage 2 jet kit and i win the drags . For in the woods the z is more controllable. His feels like a tank and is a rough ride, could just be because its beat pretty bad. Thestarter went out twice already and second gear makes funny noises.
