Default Sport quad challenge: build your quad!

So, what do you think? $8000? The point was not to build the BEST bike possible. The goal is to build the best bike you can in a certain price range. Most folks are not dropping $10K on a quad for fun.

It would still be fun with a blaster if you have a low budget. Instead of having a 7k dollar "stock" quad, you could have a fully equipped blaster that maybe slower or lack something but would be much cooler and more worthwhile to ride since you chose all the mods. You could probably do the same thing with a cheap 250r. If i was a mechanic, thats the way id go. Im no mechanic so i have a predator.

How about keep the price limit 7000$ but allow used Quads also. You could set a realistic average price for a used version of each Quad in decent shape to use for calculation. Something like

Quads no longer in production (at least close to stock-minimal mods)

lt250r- 2200$
lt500r- 3500$
250r- 4000$

Current Quads (stock)

-20% new value for 00-02 models
-40% new value for 97-99 models
-50% new value for pre 97 models

new quads

Price to be proven by the method that Motoxpress determined in his original post

You MUST include the cost of the quad at STANDARD price (meaning more than two dealers sell it for that price). For now, we will not include dealer fees or taxes.

used motor

=40% of the price of the Quad it came of + 500 for modification to the pipe and frame to accomodate a different motor.

other

Assume

-All new Quads are Bone stock unless advertised otherwise for the given price.

-Used Quads still in production are all bone stock.

-Used Quads not in production can be assumed to have low end aftermarket pipe, reeds and silencer because almost all in the mid price range do.

Here’s what I would do.

Quad type= lt250r-------------------------------------------2200$

Motor Mods= lt500 motor (3500x40%+500)-----------1900$
Trinity Stage III kit---------------------------850$

Suspension= -------------------------------------------------2050$

Total=----------------------------------------------------------7000$

I will choose suspension parts within the budget in the future but don’t have time to research it right now. I think 2050$ would cover it. My Quad still has used plastic and tires and no pretty chrome parts but no one will be able to see me long enough to tell. This bike would be farking bad!

Looks good Tom,

Any idea as to what that trinity kit puts out in HP? What about wheels and tires?

Not sure about HP, Trinity doesn’t say on their website and I didn't ask about it when I called them. Most claims for lt500 hp are 45-50hp. Trinity does say their stage II kit will produce 30% more power, which would be 58-65hp so I would suspect that the stage III produces 70+hp and would say for sure that it would have 60+hp.

I am going to wait until I determine the price for my suspension before I decide on tires/wheels. I’m not going cheap on suspension, so I may just leave the stock wheels and just get a good set of rear tires.

i would buy a cheap used blaster and then you would have lots of money for ct240kit suspension and other mods like swingarms and aarms along with a new axle

Well, there are a number of dealers selling the Z400 at $5,500.

Quad type:Z400
Cost:$5,500
Suspension mods:
Works Triple rates w/ rezzies $589

Motor mods:
Trinity stage 2 kit(full exaust, K&N,jets) $549
Hotcams in and out cams $250

Other mods:
Aluminum skid plates $150

Total: $7038

This would be a pretty fun all-around bike but, I think there are a few things I would still add to make it right:

Holeshots $200
Protapers $150

I'm sure there's more but, for now that will do.
