Default 85 LT 250r Question???

I am looking at a 85 lt 250r and it has an engine problem. When you get on the gas its almost like it hits a rev limiter and it bogs down real bad. The guy who has it said he thinks it needs a new piston and rings because the compression isn't there. Do you guys think that is the problem or do you think that it could be something more major. The bikes engine is all original and doesnt look like its ever been touched. Thanks for your help

Default 85 LT 250r Question???

Yeah it smokes a little when you start it. But that could be because the gas mixture is off. I just want to know what I am getting into because I dont want to sink alot of money into it. It fires up on about 2 to 3 kicks if that matters. The bike is real clean but I dont know about the price he is asking 1800 for it but it is in pretty good shape.
