The diference is that it is ALL just for FUN. When it gets to the point that you go home and spend your next 4 paychecks on go fast stuff just to beat the guy that whooped ya, it leaves the realm of "FUN" and goes into the area of Obsession.

When I started this thread, it said nothing about Never racing. What this thread is all about is for the people that ride for the FUN of it, and don't spend their nights awake trying to come up with a way to out-do the Jones's.

I agree. My point was that it's human nature to race, race anything. We have chosen to ride ATVs, I enjoy it for what it is. Recreation. You put any kind of motivation on a nondescript vehicle with no rules and an open space and people will race. It has probably been happening since before written history. I don't think that there are people out there spending their kids college money on racing parts for a quad but hey, stupid people are everywhere. So the next time your riding friends pull up next to you and give you that *look* you'll go and you'll be smiling the whole way...

I also used to race a 55 chevy hardtop at green valley race city in Dallas,Tx 12.80s at 128mph~ until they closed it after some bad crashes.

So RPM, your saying your BB Torino is a trailer queen? Never raced it? Why buiild such a motor if you dont want to go fast? Looks? Now thats a waste of money. Did you build or buy your Torino? If you built it, and it looks like it has a fair amount of cash in it, then it looks like you may have been obsessed to some degree. Even more obsessed to have someone build it for you $$$$$

I have dumped a ton of money into my quad, so I like to see how it stacks up against others, but like many, i dont get assed up if i lose, which does happen!

the stocker the machine, the less we race. The more its built, the more we race.. But I DONT care whos is fastest.

Because I can. The difference is, that modifying my Car has been my Hobby, not my Obsession, and everything that has been done to it has been done for ME, and no one else. It's a Torino for crying out loud, who in their right mind would put that much money into a TORINO. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

I got my Torino 1 year before I got my drivers license and I'm 38 now, so do the math. I love the Pro Street look, and if you are going to make your car look fast, it better be able to back it up. Gods honest truth, I have taken my Car to the track about 15 or 20 times in the last 23 years, mostly just to goof around with my friends or see what a certain modification had done for the car. It is a 100% Pro STREET Car. The only time it was ever trailered was back in 1996 we took to Du Quoin, Illinois for the Street Machine Nationals. The car got more damage on the trailer than it would have if I had driven it, so never again. In 1999, I took it on the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour, and we drove it over 6,300 miles in 3 weeks. It has over 200,000 miles on it (Been re-done several times).

Plain and simple, being "Fast" doesn't mean having to prove it at every stop-light, or at the track week in and week out, unless a persons Ego forces them to constantly show their superiority as well as their stupidity. I have nothing to prove to anyone.

People are missing the point of this Thread. Racing against your buddies, or the occasional stranger at the hill isn't just fun, it is expected. The problem is that all of the "Which is Faster" posts that ask the same question OVER and OVER and OVER again, seem to overtake this Forum from time to time. How many times can we discuss the topic of "Which is Faster the Z400 or the 400EX?" If we haven't figured it out in the first 50 posts, how is another 200 of the same going to resolve anything? And the more important question, which is what I am asking is, WHO CARES?

Hey to each his or her own, if putting your money into building the biggest and baddest quad in the land is your thing, then by all means go for it. I simply wanted to know "HOW MANY MEMBERS DON'T CARE WHICH QUAD IS THE FASTEST?", and simply ride for the FUN OF IT. This Forum is FULL of "My Quad is Faster than Your Quad" posts, and I thought it was time for the Members who ride just for the FUN of it should have a chance to say so. There are 4 pages in this Thread of Members who have voiced their opinions and tend to support my question, so there appears to be some out there that "Don't Care" about being the Fastest.

I will mark you down in the "DO CARE" category. Hey if I ever do get the chance to ride with ya, we will have to race, and when you Whoop me, you will see that I Really don't CARE. I'll even let you Whoop me Twice if you would like. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

True I do have a built Quadzilla but it is not set up for top speed. I did change the gearing so it would be a little more trail friendly. I was looking for a quad that had enough power to get up some of the more gnarly hills around here and this one was offered to me for $1600 so I jumped all over it. I haven't bought anything for it to make it faster - the only things I have done to it other than put the motor back together (several times) was to buy a set of nerfs, a set of handguards, a better kill switch, a new set of tires, and beadlocks for the rear because it has enough power to spin the tires right off the wheels if you get traction. The motor was already built when I bought it. See I didn't spend anymore money on it that I would had I bought a Blaster (which I will buy one of those too sometime - I am trying to get one of every 2 stroke race quad that was built)

As far as my 250R goes I use it to race harescrambles and no it isn't geared for top speed either - it is set up to work great in the woods. Sure, it is fast and, sure, it has a lot of power, but in a race for top speed it would not win. I don't have it set up for anything like that because it is impractical. All these clowns who are worried about top speed would make more sense if they were wanting to know which quad was the most powerful or which one worked the best for whatever kind of riding they were wanting to do. Top speed is irrelevant obviously you didn't "read" my post too carefully either. You can gear any quad to have more top speed, but say you are drag racing - the guy who is geared for better acceleration is going to beat you because by the time you get "up to speed" the guy with the better gearing will already be at the finish line waiting on you.

 

I like to know which quad is fastest or which quad isn't, it is interesting to me, but i do get annoyed with the 250ex vs blaster and 300ex vs blaster we all know who would win...a blaster, but i like to hear 400ex vs z400 and raptor vs Bomber.
