buying quads?
i'm gonna be buying two quads, one for my son, and one for me. my son has ridden only one time when i rented some quads in mexico. he rode a polaris trailblazer 250. he actually handled it well to my surprize. buy i think it might be just a little to much power for him. and it's on the heavy side, and i'm not a big fan on the auto tranny. me i used to ride dirt bikes back in the 80's i rode 250 smokes. i'm 33yrs old and i'm 6'0 220lbs and my son is 11yr olds and maybe 5'0 and 95lbs i was thinking of getting him a honda 250ex since it's not really a true 250 ( i think it's like 238cc or somthin like that) and me i was thinking a z400. we will be riding mostly in the desert and maybe some trails. i don't ever see us racing mx or goin to any kind of track. my son is a begginer. like i said hes only ridden a quad once. a trailblazer 250. any and all help will be helpful thanks.

Yellowexracer is right. If you are getting a Z-400 then you might want to consider the Z-250 for your son. If you like Hondas, get a 250EX and a 400EX. Go with one brand and see if you can get a discount from a dealer for a multi quad purchase. My money would be on the Hondas. The 400EXs have been seriously discounted to sell against the Z-400s. Perhaps the same will be true of the 250EX versus the Z 250.

If you see the need to have the capabilty of starting in any gear then go with the Z-400. The Honda doesn't so you have to put it in neutral everytime you start it. Great feature if you have a tendency of stalling the bike. And their right, you may want to consider getting the same brand to get a better deal. I'd also suggest that whatever you get for yourself you should get the same for your son. Otherwise he'll be riding yours in a couple of years. Just keep an eye on him for now. You'll be suprised how fast he'll catch on to riding. Honda is a proven quad while Yamaha's Z-400 is a relatively new one. I have one for my wife and she love it. I haven't had any problems with it, yet.

When did yamaha make the z400, ne wayz, the z400 is an awesome quad, but like everyone says try to get something that is the same brand... I know that with the dealership I went to my neighbor bought 3 CR250's, Predator, and I went in on it with him and got my raptor 4 alot cheaper... I guess it pays when you have wealthy neighbors!! N E questions on anything just let me know...

read the latest issue of Dirt Wheels. the Z400 frame has a defect, it cracks. I was gonna trade my 400ex in for a Z400 just for reverse and liquid cooled, then I read that. My buddy is crying his eyes out cause he made the mistake of buying a 'new' produced quad. Hopefully they should have this fixed on the 2004 or 05 Z's.
my wife has a 250ex and she's 5'7" 130 lbs and it's not too small for her. The semi-auto clutch is great for her skills.
