The 1987 5 lug hubs will work on a 1985 LT250R I know for a fact. One of my friends is running a set of hubs on his 1985 that I gave him off of my 1987. The 1988 and newer ones may be different though I am not totally for sure on that...

Okay, since i shot my mouth off without checking, i decided to look into it. Apparently my source didn't know what year he was working with, he checked a five stud hub and couldn't make it work, i didn't personally view it so who knows what he was working with. The part numbers for an axle for an '85, '87, '88, and a '92 are all different. The hubs for an '87 and a '88 are a different part number. SOoooo, i am absolutely, positively sure that at this point that i have no clue what to tell you. I will check some more, but if anybody has the info, i would like to hear how this shakes out myself. One other interesting item, list price for the '85 axle was the highest by A LOT.

Well I know that the bearings and seals are the same from 85 to 92. What I was basing my info off of was the info at the dura blue websit in the rear hubs section---->DuraBlue Rear Hubs
Oh yeah I did make an error though. I meant the 85-87 were the same, not through 88

Anyone know if the swingarm skid plates will interchange on 85-86 and 87 and up models---that'd be nice because finding them for an 86 is almost impossible

By the way, I'm also pretty sure the rear hubs are interchangable, but not sure about axles

You can make the 1987 skidplate work on the 1985-6... You can also put a 1987 swingarm on a 1985-6... As far as the axle goes, 1985-6 and 1987 all use the same axle bearings so it is safe to assume that the axle will also work.

superstar, you appear to be right, the hubs are the same for the '87 and '88. listed as 25x24x1. for the 89 through 92 they are listed as 27x26x1. so it looks like the hubs from '87and '88 will interchange with '85 and '86. (sorry about that). The bearings are listed as the same size for all years. The axle is listed as different lengths for some of the latter years, so that probably explains the different part numbers. Still doesn't answer slackers question about the interchangability on the axle though.

This is some good feedback, and some good info. Keep it coming. Looks like others are having the same questions as I am. I would still like to hear from someone who has actually tried an axel swap.

Jumping in on this thread, i have a question also. My understanding is that the 85 had a 32mm carb and the rest of the years were 34mm. On ebay there is someone selling a "stock" 36 mm carb for a lt250r. Did some of the other years have a 36mm carb?
