I would think the lt250 is worth a bit more even without the extra motor. Here in FL 4x4s in that size class are not very expensive. Its not uncommon to see 2000 models go for 2500$ and I’ve seen 2000 model 2x4s go for 2000$. An 87 LT250 in decent shape that needs nothing to ride would easily get 2000-2500$. The extra motor is worth at least 500$ and possibly over 1000$ if its in very good shape and has performance parts.
I have not paid much attention to utility quads older than late 90's I’ve been watching the newer ones lately because I'm probably going to sell the 86 LT250 and get a utility bike, but having seen what 2000-2500$ can buy for a newer one I wouldn’t pay much for one that’s 10 years old.

I'd think long and hard about a Polaris from the early 90s. Their quality was not on a par with the Japs, these were very high maintenance and repair machines. The 300 is underpowered for 4 wheel drive. The transmissions, linkages, swing arm bearings, clutches and belts are all prone to failure. It probably has a drive system with 3 chains, all of which need regular attention and some are inaccessible. They have 20+ grease zircs underneath that all need squirts often. One of the favorite things Polaris dealers like is the $$ the make on maintenance and repairs that riders often can't handle. Look around for a Honda, Yamaha or Suzuki from that era, the odds of getting a good one are much better. Ride a Wolverine, they are pretty sporty and soon Warn will offer a part that lets you shift from 2 to 4 wd, which will make it even more sporty. One man's opinion...
