Dude that sucks, I hope that don't happen to mine. I don't jump real far, just real high. Hopefully that isn't a new problem for these.

 

Suzuki better cover that for you!!!! I haven't seen or heard of any other Z's with that problem. Im sure it was just a mfg. defect. Alot of guys have been racing their Z for over a year and nothing like this hasnt happened.

What happened to rear light that you had to install a reflector or something under it? (in the first 3 months) Just curious.

 

Also, Were you jumping/riding in the sand at the dunes when the axle broke?

 

I wouldn't tell the dealer you were jumping it 5 feet in the air. Most quads have warning labels on them telling you not to jump. If your dealer is a jerk he may use that against you. But hopefully they should cover it.

 

How long ago did it break? When does your warranty run out?

 

I was assuming that you bought the Z400 new. But I guess you bought it second hand. Seeing that you bought it 3 months ago and it's a 2002. Maybe whoever had it before knew it was cracked so they dumped it at the dealers. Then you came along and bought a broken Z. Has someone from Suzuki come out to look at the break? I see that you took the pic on 4-27-03 so it's been a little over a month since it happen. Has Suzuki or the dealer been leading you along?
Maybe you just happened to buy one of the first Z's out when they were having problems.

I've been thinking about buying a Z400 so I'm interested how everything works out. I had talked to a Suzuki dealer that said he hasn't had any come back to his store with problems. When I mentioned the problems on the threads. He said that he thought that alot of the threads were from other companies trying to spread false info. The dealer also has Honda atv's.

 

As busted up and dirty as that Z looks no wonder the swingarm broke.

I personally never seen a swingarm just explode like that, probably like stated above was cracked before and finally lead to that.

 

One more thing, you put above your pics that it was a 2002. Didn't they start making the Z400's as new 2003 models. Is there a 2002 Z? Did the original owner buy the 2003 model in 2002?
