give powroll a call, they have a 270 big bore for the 230. do you mean mx(motocross) or xc(cross country)? cause if you want a woods bike, call ebc while your at it and order a dirt runner clutch, wich will also work for mx, but it works really well for xc. i would also invest in a better carb, like a keihin/dg carb for a honda 250x. then get some beadlock rims, holeshot tires(hd's are the best, longest lasting), and a dg xcellerator pipe, rejet the carb and a dd a k&n filter with a pre wrap and remove the airbox lid. hope this helps.

Unfortunately, powroll no longer carries their big bore kits for the 230 sport. However, my brother found out about a year ago that they will still sell you the kit but you have to order at least 4 at a time. I just called them 2 days ago to see if they'd still sell it and they said no. Then I mentioned the 4 at a time idea and they sounded interested. I gave them my phone # and they're supposed to call me to tell me if they'll sell it to me that way. I'm still waiting. If they do, I'll probably keep 2 of the kits and sell 2. If I remember correctly, they had a 273 cc kit and you could get up to 12.5 to 1 compression depending on which piston you ordered. They also had cams available. Hopefully they'll still sell the stuff. I'll post a new thread if I hear from them and can get the kits because I'll be looking to sell 2 of them.

Hi. How's it going. I just joined the forum and was doing some research and found a post where you stated that a company was selling a big bore kit for the lt230s. I was wondering if they ended up selling them to you? I think my engine is seized and would like to rebuild it with some better performace pieces. Thanks.

if i were you i would have the piston, and rings checked out and have them replaced if necessary. If all that is fine, clean out carb thoroughly and check the jets. change/ clean the airfilter. put good oil in it. just fix it up so it will run good, and for a long time. sell it and get what you can for it. take that money and save up for a newer bike. not brand spanking new, but newer. THEN start adding goodies. in my opinion it would not be worth spending too much money becasue its so old. i have an '86 LT230 and the only things i spend money on is the things that it absolutely needs.

Wow. This is a really old thread that got dug up. I haven't been on this board for awhile. Was surprised to see one of my responses on the first thread I read.
Anyway, I never did follow through with the deal. Not enough interest at the time. If I were going to build my 230 tomorrow, I would probably consider other engine builders as well (someone like FTZ perhaps).
There is currently a brand new 260 big bore kit (LA Sleeve) on eBay. Here's the link:

It doesn't tell you what the comp ratio is for the piston. I'd be curious. I've heard good things about LA Sleeve though.
Good luck
