Default lt250 vs kfx400

I raced a guy on a Z400 with 436 kit, cams & pipe, no porting with my 87 LT with Pipe, wiseco, 39 PWK, reeds, 170 psi compression. Raced up a steep sand dune. He absolutely killed me, like 1/3 of the dune. Beat me out of the hole, pulled more distance thru all gears. Apparently there's some power to be had in those engines.

Hey Superstar,
How do you like your LRD pipe. I hear they are good for top end. I have a FMF gold series right now and I am considering upgrading to either a ftz or LRD pipe.

they even get more powerful if you look up into the 470 kits ands more.. Stock for stock the LT would win in a drag race on dirt in my opinion tho.

So I was wondering why I kept getting beat like a rug and the LT just didn't feel like it had much go. So I fiddle with it tonight. Power valve was stuck open. No wonder. Way better now. Back to the dunes thursday, take a new shot at Devils dune. Wish that 436 Z would be there to try another shot at it.

Hey slacker1bob, Its true the LRD is a mid ta topend pipe but I like it. It still has a pretty good bottom but the stocker has a bit more. Besides the LRD gets to the midrange pretty quick anyways. How do you like the FMF? I heard its a great pipe for the older LTs and was thinking on getting one.

Ill swap ya. I am looking for more top end, and my pipe is suppose to be a low-mid booster. I like to drag race in Glamis. I am a total under dog with the 86 lt250, but I still have fun.

I have a (new to me) 1989 lt250r. It has a new (stock bore/ stock porting) barrel. the only mods are a K & N filter (Box lid removed) and a FMF Turbine Core II silencer. My (stock) Z400 will consistantly beat it in the sand (Flat 1/8 Mile). My son and I switch back and forth, every time the Z wins. I thought the LT250R should be faster however, not yet. Any suggestions for Mods to the LT ???

dfox,
You need a pipe on that thing. Otherwise, I am surprised that you are losing to a Z400. With your stock setupa 39mm carb would be a bit much. try a keihin 38mm pwk air stryker, or a 36mm these seem to be pretty popular for that quad. I run a 35mm pwk. I had a 38mm mikuni but it was too much, also it was physically too big. the 35mm Keihin fits comfortably. Anyways get a pipe, and you will beat the Z400
