how would an 85 lt250r with an FMF gold series pipe and power core muffler and K&N do against a stock 2003 KFX400 in a drag race on pavement and dirt. whats the top speed on both of these quads?

I know that my 1990 lt beats a kfx in a drag race but not by much. When I raced him I had my 12 tooth sprocket and I was about 1 mph faster at top speed, with my 13 tooth sprocket on now he would not have a chance. I way about 185 and he is probably 120-135?

If you have stock tires and gears I think the 85 LT250 will do upper 60’s don’t know about the KFX. My 91 LT250 would probably take a KFX but I don’t think my 86 would. It had the head milled, FMF silencer, and K+N filter without the air box lid and I believe the 86 LT’s were a hair faster than the 85s due to different porting and a 34mm carb instead of the 32mm on the 85s. So I would bet on the KFX.

The Z400/KFX's top out at around 65 66 mph.

I'm sure a fast revving 2 stroke would be able to beat one in a drag race.

The Z/KFX would probably take you off the line, every 2-stroke i see spins like crazy )

My 92 quadracer with alot of mods will walk off and leave the Z. The bigger carb that I put on my racer made all the difference in its performance. I have no plans to mod the Z except pipe and jetting. I bought it for trail rides.

My neighbor has an '87(?) lt250 with FMF gold series, mild port, and a filter, and I could beat it with when my Z had the Yoshi, filter, and jetted, but I'm pretty sure a stock one wouldn't win.

so it would be a good bet that the lt250r would take the kfx in a long race?

I have a 86 LT250 wich is essentially the same as the 85, and mine will beat piped Z400's, KFX400's and 400EX's. I have mainly raced them at Oldsmobile hill in Glamis, but I am sure I can beat them on the flats as well. I also have an FMF gold series pipe and K&N Filter, but I also have a mild port job, and removed the air boxed. I run a keihin pwk35, and use stock gearing, although I will soon be switching to a 11/41 setup and trying it for the hills.

Well my '86 is all stock except for LRD pipe+silencer and crappy maier plastic and it will take my friends stock Z with baffle taken out from start to finish on any surface we've raced on.

later,
Superstar
