Vinson maintenance question
#1
I just bought a new Vinson and have a few questions. The guy at dealership said I "should not baby' the engine, just run it normal. The manual says to not exceed half throttle for the first 10 hours. Which is correct? The dealer said I should get the first servicing (oil change) after 40 hour of use. The manual says after 100 miles (about 10 hours). Should I go with what the dealer is saying or insist on an earlier service? Any advice appreciated!!!

I just finished up my 10 hours on the Vinson. I started opening it up around 9.5 hours but before that i babyed it. I have about 80 miles on it and it is awesome to be able to open it up and lift that front end up now!!! Listen to the manual, and do a 10 hour break in period, that would be my suggestion.

I was thinking of doing the first oil change at 10 hrs, another at 20 hrs and then at every 20 hours. Does this sound ok? The book says every 1200 miles, but that seem like too long?

i let mine have it the first time i rode it. i've got 160 miles on it now and it still runs like it did when it was new. i'm going to change the oil this weekend. i haven't decided how often to change the oil, but a car is 3000 miles. i'm fixing to put a jet kit and a hmf pipe on it and see what it can do.

Yea, but a car does not spin at half the RPMs a quad does.....

well first off ...you should change the oil after the 10hour mark....This is a must do thing. And as far as babying the machine ...that is a farce. If you want the rings to seat properly you must gewt on it every now and then. I wouldnt go all out for the first ten hours but i wouldnt baby it either.. Here is a link i do believe everyone should read.

I'd follow the manual. I have two Vinsons. I followed the manual and took it easy with the first one. On the second, I rode it hard the very first time out. Now I have over 1300 mi on each and I can tell you they are two different machines. The engine of the first is smoother, and not as noisy. If I had to do it again, I'd follow the manual just for the peace of mind.
Also, change the oil twice a year regardless of mileage. Oil degrades the older it gets. I change mine once in Nov (10-40w) for winter riding and once in June (20-50w). It's cheap insurance.
Hope this helps.
