See my web page for proof.
Do you let off the gas in between 1st and 2nd? If not, doesn't that kinda hurt the tranny too?

yes that does hurt the tranny. All you have to do to wheelie it is put it in 1st and punch it and lift up on the handlebars at the same time. Or you can find a small bump and put it in 2nd and pull up when you go off it.

i wheelee my 230 so easy i can get it up in second or third, and ride it for 200yds. the lt230 is so much fun for an old bike, even though i have a new vinson, and yes NEVER drop it into gear, it is very bad for the clutch. it is like takeing you car revving it up, and then putting it in drive. BAD

Yes Redgoblin, I do let off the gas and shift mostly normal. The biggest thing is the timing of the weight shift to the back of the seat and the pull up on the bars with the quad speed and engine RPM. Second gear lower in the RPM band lets me wheelie longer. That way you don't beat up the tranny by power shifting. I'm 235 lbs so a little butt slide to the back of the seat makes a big impact on weight transfer. This technique works on most any underpowered autoclutch quad even on flat ground. At my size, a little 400 lb quad aint no problem to toss around and make it do what I want! I have found over the years that playing around in the trails is just as much fun with my little Recon as it is with my Z-400. Totally different animals but both a blast!

From a dead start, put quad in second gear. stand up with your legs agaist the back fenders. Give it full throttle and lean way back over the rack. It will come right up. Once you get it up you can ride it out of site. Then you can master it in 1'st and go and stop on a weelie too! I've got some pics, but i cant figure out how to put them on here. I've got a mx z400, it's my g/f ozark, but it's more fun doing weelies on that than my z! email me if you want some pics

man you guys are gonna really mess up your trannys those of you who dump the clutch to pop a wheelie. What I do is from a stand still and in first gear I lean back yank up on the bars and nail the gas simultaneously and it will pop right up then you shift into second really fast and just keep riding it until the front end comes back down. It is kind of hard for me because I am 14 and barely over 5 foot so alot of times I cant reach the shifter while riding a wheelie to go into second but my stepdad does it all the time!
