Get the Z-250. It's by far the best in everything.

The blaster was my first atv. I bought a new 98 blaster. I rode it for about 2 months and needed to upgrade, but i am an agressive rider. I bought a fmf pipe , k&n filter and boyeson reeds. THis really made a huge improvement over stock. A stock blaster only has like 12 hp , yamaha doesnt really brag about it because it sounds bad . In an old issue of dirt wheels magazine they added these same upgrades and put it on the dyno and was said to have like 18-20 hp, which doesnt sound too impressive but it is actually very throttle responsive and accelerates pretty quick. Other advantages of a blaster are light weight , which helps smaller riders manuver it really well,. not to mention if you get stuck itll be easier to get unstuck. A blaster isnt very wide which allows it to be riden on tighter trails and short whhel base for tighter turning. I dont hjave the blaster anymore but i highly recommend one, it served me very well for a year, and its pretty cheap ( around 3000). A friend had a 300ex which isnt even mentioned in your possble choices but it could not climb most larger dunes when i went to florence, my blaster went evrywhere florence had to offer, some places were difficult to get out of, but it did it. Even though you may have to buy these three upgrades soon they only cost around 300 for them, and you can install them yourself. Blasters have oil injection too so you need not premix. you should go up 1 jet size too, even though blasters mix at 20:1, a bigger jet will allow more fuel to flow. If you buy a 250x you will be so disappointed believe me.

blasters as a first bike EQUALS NO NO!

2-stroke bikes take a lot of practice, getting down the clutch and trying to keep a 2-stroke in the power band, you could end up hurting yourself.

I do however highly recommend you get a clutch for your first bike. a 300ex would be an EXCELLENT choice.

I had a 2000 330EX built by FST and had it fully suspended and widened and all that good crap, it would be 400exs all day long anywhere any place, it would beat a stock z400 in a drag too but by like a half a bike lenght )

You can alawys upgrade the 300ex for more power or sell it and get something else. Great all around bike, i owned a 1987 250X(almost exactly the same bike) it was beat to hell, i bought it in 2000. It had tons of hours on it. Ran like a champ tho.

a fella bought it from me redid it put some ugly yellow 400ex plastic on it, he posted on here for a little bit. Its ashame he ruined a CLASSIC ATV by butchering it up with 400ex plastic......

I had a 1997 Trail blazer as well, i put an RCR stage one kit on it, holeshots on ITP .190s and put red scrambler plastic on it, that freakin thing ran like a CHAMP, after the stage one kit i could toast blasters in a drag race, it was pretty fu nny.. but they are a heavy ****, mine lost almost 50 pounds after cutting off the foot boards, changing from steel rims, and taking off varous other things, that little rotor guard thats a round pice of metal....it weights like 7 pounds...crazy polaris

To some it down, the 250EX the Z250 are good bikes but lack the clutch that you will need to move on to bigger bikes, they are more of younger kids bikes. 10-14 maybe...i was riding a blaster when i was 13, so with some practice you can handle her, i sold my 2000 blaster to a guy for his 11 year old son(the kid used to race 2-stroke dirt bikes tho so he has some good xp) WHATEVER you do learn the right techniques WEAR A HELMENT NO MATTER WHAT YOU ARE DOING ON IT. and most of all USE COMMON SENSE on your atv, they are pretty dangerous if you don't watch it.

I went riding with one of my friends a few days ago, and he had a Blaster for his first quad. He only had had it for 2 days and he didnt have much of a problem with it. He didn't have the clutch totally figured out yet, but he wasnt having too many problems. So i wouldn't say a Blaster for a first quad wouldn definately be a no no.

What the hell are you talking about a blaster is the perfect first bike , i see 12 year old kids on blasters and they do really well. Why is it a no no ? Why get a 300ex , just to trade it in and lose money . Maybe you guys have the money to buy new atv every couple months but most people cant. BUying a 300ex is bad advice unless you just want to ride around your backyard and watch your sisters play tea and crumpets.

Y don't u wanna get a blaster for a first bike? That was my first bike, it took me a lil bit gettin used to the clutch, but once I got that figured out i was rippin on the trails. i had to upgrade to my Z because i'm 14 6'2" 160 and the blaster was a lil too small. y won't a blaster do 80? i bet my blaster would get pretty damn close if i put a 14 tooth sprocket and 22 in. tires and it would prolly get there.

A stock blaster can barely use 6th gear at the dunes. I would shift into 6th and it would just lower the rpms not really add speed. I bought an fmf pipe and it was alot better, but i ended up actually going down to 12 tooth. Blasters arent gonna win much drags anyway. You have to shift a bit more witha 12 tooth front sprocket but it adds alot of low end power. AS far as going up a tooth on a stock blaster, if thats what we are talking about is dumb and wouldnt do anything but rob part of the whole 12 hp you have. TRy it if you guys want but it would be a waste of 20 bucks. I never clocked my blaster and dont know why i would want to but it definately didnt go 80 ...lol .. there is just no way , it maybe went 60 give or take. Maybe if you bought that 240 kit for it but stock or even witha pipe you are out of your minds if you believe its possible.

i wasn't meanin stock or even with a pipe. They were doubting a blaster would go 80. It's not impossible, well on a stock motor, but not a highly modded motor.
