been awhile but ?? on Eiger
#1
Well they won't let me surf the net at work anymore(sux), so I haven't been on the forum in awhile but have a small prob with the Eiger. My rear brake light is stuck on. I hit all the brakes several times and it's stuck on. When in neutral it seems ok and it doesn't feel like the brakes are stuck. I unplugged one of the wires to the brake so it would not stay on for the ride the other day.
I also noticed some brake fluid seaping out of the resiviour (?) , like out of a small weap hole in the cover. Don't know if this is related to the light staying on or me pumping the brakes or what.
Also noticed the front end tranny chattering a bit going down a rutty hill. It then quit it for the rest of a long trip. Almost seemed like it wasn't coming out 4x4 or something, the noise it was making like the gears chattering. Anyway, anyone have something similar happen? Any insight aprreciated. The bike is running strong but not sure what the deal is w/ this.

The front end chattering, well if it sounded like mine a clunking noise, I had to adjust the 4x4 linkage. When it was disengaged the collar was barely off the shaft. Look where the cable goes into the front diff, see if there is any slack. there should be no slack. On 4x4 lever just pull back rubber boot and there is an adjuster.
As far as the brake light I believe if you look at the foot brake you will see a switch, as foot brake is depressed it hits switch causing rear light to come on. Also adjustable. There is a section in your manual to adjust this.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. There is defenitely some brake fluid pumping out of the resiviour on the handlebar. I looked at the footbrake and messed w/ it a little and couldn't get the light to go off but not ruling it out. I wonder if the brake light and fluid leaking all of a sudden is connected. The thing only has 500 miles. Any more ideas appreciated. especially on why it could be leaking oil from the cover. When I hit that handbrake it bubbles out of this little depression in the cover where it meets the resiviour. I wonder could the brake be on slightly or something.
I might have to check the 4x4 adjuster. It works and all but it made the noise after I had disengaged it and I always come to a stop. How would you tell if you have slack, does it move or appear to have some slack? And which way do you adjust it, tighten it I guess? Appreciate the insight once again...
Well, since I 've been off the board awhile, I might mention that I almost ran over a black bear this weekend. I had seen a large bear bank over the hill and a few seconds later a cub about the size of a lab ran out in front of me and almost nailed it. It was pretty cool, and saw some deer as usual. Hate to take it to the dealer already($$)

Thanks for the info. It was the foot brake making the light stay on, the plunger on the switch was sticking due to sand, etc. Some oil on it cured that and also took the slack out of the 4x4 lever, seems better now. The fluid may have just seaped out from pumping the brakes so much, isn't leaking now. later...

I have had the same problem with my Eiger. Brake light stays on. The dealership tells me it is a problem with the switch connection on the front side of the right rear fender well. They told me that have had to replace several and it is covered under warranty. Wiggle this connection (pretty easy to find, looks like a large wire coming out of the front of the fender well and leads to brake light). The light should go out. This will confirm or rule out the connection is faulty.
